Astros Minor League Recap: July 31st

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (66-37) won 7-4 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs on a Machado RBI groundout and Salazar RBI double. Kouba got the start and went 5 innings allowing 4 runs, all in the 3rd. Sugar Land got a run back in the 7th on a Salazar RBI groundout. In the 8th, the offense rallied for 4 runs on a Whitcomb solo HR, Hamilton 2 run double and Machado RBI single. The pen tossed 4 scoreless innings as they close out the 7-4 win.

Note: Whitcomb has a .917 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (34-63) won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Pecko madę his Double-A debut and was solid tossing 4.1 scoreless innings with 2 strikeouts. The Hooks got on the board in the 2nd inning on an Arocho RBI groundout. Guilfoil pitched in relief and allowed 1 run over 3.1 innings. He was relieved by Ford who went 1.2 scoreless as the game went to extras. In the 10th, Brewer walked it off with an RBI single to win it 2-1.

Note: Pecko has a 3.67 ERA this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (41-54)

Game 1 – lost 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

This was a continuation of Tuesday’s game. Swanson started on Tuesday and went 3 scoreless innings. Garcia connected on a solo HR in the first and after 3 innings, the game was suspended. Cobos started the game in the 4th and went 3.1 innings as the Crawdads tied it up. The game went to extras and Henderson allowed 2 runs as Asheville fell 3-1.

Game 2 – lost 8-0 (BOX SCORE)

Pena made his High-A debut but struggled allowing 6 runs over 3.1 innings. He was relieved by Sanchez who allowed 2 runs over 2.2 innings. The offense was quiet picking up just 3 hits as Asheville dropped game, 8-0.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (43-55) lost 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Brito got the start and allowed 2 runs over 4.2 innings while striking out 6. He was relieved by Almonte who allowed 2 runs. The offense got on the board scoring 2 runs in the 8th on RBI doubles from Luciano and Hernandez. In the 9th, the offense got another run on a Gomez RBI single but that was it as the Woodpeckers fell 5-3.

Note: Brito has 57 K in 34.1 innings this season.
