Astros Minor League Recap: July 30th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (65-37) won 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first scoring 3 runs on a Whitcomb 2 run HR and Kessinger RBI single. Gusto got the start and was great again tossing 6.2 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. In the 8th, Kessinger added a solo HR. The offense got some more insurance in the 9th getting a 3 run HR from Dezenzo. The bullpen allowed a run but was able to hold on for the 7-1 win.

Note: Gusto has a 1.33 ERA over his last nine starts.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (33-63) lost 11-5 (BOX SCORE)

Brown started for the Hooks but struggled allowing 5 runs over 3 innings. The offense got on the board in the second inning on a Brewer RBI single. They got 2 more in the 3rd on an Arocho RBI groundout and Sacco solo HR. In the 4th, Barber added a solo HR. Rodriguez pitched in relief allowing 4 runs as the Sod Poodles opened up their lead. Melendez allowed another 2 runs in the 9th. Arocho got one back in the 9th on an RBI single but that was it as the Hooks fell 11-5.

Note: Sacco has 8 HR this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (41-52) SUSPENDED

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (43-54) lost 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

Rodriguez made his full season debut and allowed 1 run over 2.1 innings with 4 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the 5th on an Ochoa solo HR. Mejia pitched in relief and allowed 3 runs over 4.1 innings. Ochoa added an RBI single in the 7th but that was it from the offense as the Woodpeckers fell 5-2.

Note: Ochoa has a .723 OPS this season.
