Astros Minor League Recap: August 2nd

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (67-38) won 11-6 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring 4 runs on a Hummel 2 run triple, Narvaez RBI single and Machado RBI single. Greene got the start and went 3 innings allowing 1 run. They got another run in the 5th on a Dezenzo solo HR. In the 6th, the offense blew it open scoring 6 runs on a Whitcomb RBI double, Dezenzo bases loaded walk and Melton grand slam. The bullpen allowed a few runs but were able to hold on for the 11-6 win.

Note: Dezenzo is hitting .417 in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (34-65) lost 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks offense got on the board in the second inning scoring a run on a Sacco solo HR. Ullola got the start and went 4 innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 6. Torres and Ford were great in relief but Santa allowed 3 runs. The offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Hooks fell 5-1.

Note: Torres has a 0.00 ERA over his last 5 outings.


A+: Asheville Tourists (42-55) won 10-6 (BOX SCORE)

Baez put Asheville on the board in the first inning on a 2 run HR. True got the start and lasted 2 innings allowing 4 runs. In the bottom of the 2nd, the offense rallied for 4 runs on a Baez RBI single, Fisher bases loaded hit by pitch, and Sherwin 2 run double. They got 2 more runs in the 4th on a Fisher 2 run HR. Cerny added a 2 run HR in the 7th. Henderson tossed 3 scoreless in relief and Molero tossed 1.2 scoreless to close out the win.

Note: Cerny has 13 HR, 25 SB this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (45-55) won 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board scoring 4 runs in the first inning a Villarroel RBI single, Bush RBI groundout, Nunez RBI single and Casserilla RBI double. They got 3 more in the second inning on a Villarroel sac fly and Bush 2 run double. Santos got the start but struggled allowing 6 runs, 5 earned over 3 innings. He was relieved by Langford who allowed 1 run over 4 innings. The game went to the 9th tied at 7 but Luciano walked it off with an RBI double as the Woodpeckers won 8-7.

Note: Leach has a 3.13 ERA this season.
