Astros Minor League Recap: August 18th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (74-45) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Gordon got the start for Sugar Land and was solid allowing 2 runs over 6.2 innings with 7 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the 7th on a Melton solo HR. In the 8th, Bastidas tied it up at 2 with an RBI single. Tacoms picked up 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th to go up 4-2. Melton added a solo HR in the 9th but that was it from the offense as Sugar Land fell 4-3.

Note: Melton has 13 homers this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (41-72) lost 9-2 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the 3rd inning on a Deming solo HR. Guilfoil got the start but struggled allowing 5 runs over 3.1 innings. In the 5th, Deming connected on another solo HR for the 2nd run. The pen allowed a few more runs and the offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Hooks fell 9-2.

Note: Deming has 16 HR this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (46-66)

Game 1 – lost 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

Swanson got the start and went 2 innings allowing 2 runs. He was relieved by Brockhouse who allowed 2 runs over 2.1 innings. The offense got on the board in the 6th inning on an Encarnacion solo HR but that was it from the offense as Asheville dropped game one, 4-1.

Note: Sanchez has 71 K in 47 innings this season.

Game 2 – lost 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first inning on a Janek solo HR, his first professional home run. Urias got the start and went 4.2 innings allowing 5 runs, 3 earned. The offense rallied for 4 runs in the 5th on a Cruz RBI single, Janek RBI groundout, and Encarnacion 2 run HR. Rome scored a few runs to take the lead but Guillemette tied things in the 7th on a 2 run HR. The game went to extras (8th inning) and Rome walked it off as Asheville dropped game two.

Note: Morton is hitting .333 in High-A.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (50-62) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Mejia got the start and allowed 3 runs over 4 innings while striking out 7. The Woodpeckers got on the board scoring 3 runs in the 5th on a Bush RBI double, Colon sac fly, and Vogel RBI single. In the 7th, Sullivan gave the Woodpeckers the lead with an RBI double. Villarroel added a sac fly in the 8th. Nunez closed it out allowing just 1 unearned run over the final 4 innings.

Note: Austin is hitting .419 in Single-A.
