Astros Minor League Recap: August 10th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (72-40) lost 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Verlander made a rehab start and allowed 1 run over 3 innings while striking out 3. The offense got on the board in the 4th scoring 3 runs on a Melton RBI groundout and RBI singles from Hamilton and Salazar. Gusto pitched in relief and allowed 4 runs, 2 earned over 7 innings, with two of the runs coming in the 10th. The offense got a few on but couldn’t convert as Sugar Land fell 5-3.

Note: Gusto has a 3.80 ERA this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (38-68) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Brown started for the Hooks and went 5 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned with 7 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Price RBI single. In the 6th, Deming connected on a 2 run HR. Rodriguez pitched in relief allowing 2 runs as the Wind Surge took the lead. The offense was unable to comeback as the Hooks fell 4-3.

Note: Deming has 14 HR this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (44-61) lost 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

Langford made his High-A debut and went 4 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned with 6 strikeouts. Swanson pitched in relief allowing 2 runs, 1 earned over 4 innings. The offense got one run in the 9th on a Guillemette solo HR but that was it as Asheville fell 4-1.

Note: Langford has 60 K in 44.2 innings this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (47-58) lost 20-11 (BOX SCORE)

Santos got the start but struggled allowing 6 runs over 4 innings. The offense got on the board scoring 3 in the first on an Encarnacion solo HR and Austin 2 run double. They got 2 more in the second on a steal of home and an error. In the 6th the offense picked up 3 runs on a wild pitch and an Austin 2 run single. Sanchez pitched in relief but struggled allowing 7 runs, and Leach allowed 2, as the Hillcats took a big lead. The offense scored 2 in the 7th on Encarnacion and Gomez RBI singles. The Hillcats would add a few more as they went on to win big on Saturday.

Note: Gomez is hitting .440 in August.
