Astros Minor League Recap: August 9th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (72-39) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the first inning on a Melton RBI single. They got another run in the 2nd inning on an Amaya RBI single. In the 4th, Amaya added a 2 run HR. Blubaugh got the start and was dominant allowing 1 run over 6.1 innings while striking out 8. The pen allowed a run but was able to hold on for the 4-2 win.

Note: Blubaugh has 89 K in 94 innings this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (38-67) won 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

Fleury started for the Hooks and pitched well going 5 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. After the Wind Surge scored a run in the top of the 7th, the Hooks rallied for 4 on a Deming solo HR, Espinosa solo HR and Arocho 2 run single. Mancini went 3 innings allowing a 1 run and Torres closed it out with a scoreless 9th.

Note: Mancini has a 1.69 ERA in Double-A this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (44-60) lost 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

Nezuh got the start and went 4.1 innings allowing 4 runs with 4 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the 4th on a Baez solo HR. Batista allowed 3 runs in relief and the offense was quiet the rest of the way as Asheville fell 7-1.

Note: Baez has 20 HR this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (47-57) 

Game 1 – lost 7-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first on a Villarroel RBI single. They got another run in the 2nd inning on an error. In the 3rd, Powell connected on a 2 run HR, his first professional home run.Brito got the start and tossed 3 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. Villarroel added an RBI double in the 5th. The pen struggled allowing 7 runs as the Woodpeckers went on to drop game one, 7-5.

Note: Villarroel is hitting .295 in Single-A.

Game 2 – won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Gonzalez started for the Woodpeckers and allowed 3 runs over 3 innings of work. The offense responded with 3 runs in the 3rd on a Gomez RBI single and Villarroel 2 run double. They got another run in the 4th on a Bush solo HR. The Woodpeckers grabbed one more in the 5th on a Powell RBI single. Marte closed it out allowing 1 run over 4 innings as the Woodpeckers won game two, 5-4.

Note: Marte has 70 K in 58.2 innings this season.
