Astros Minor League Recap: July 11th

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (57-31) won 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Hensley RBI single. They got 2 more runs in the 6th on a Leon 2 run HR. Gusto got the start and was dominant striking out 9 over 6.1 innings allowing just 1 unearned run. The bullpen tossed 2.2 hitless innings to close out the 3-1 win.

Note: Gusto has a 1.27 ERA over his last 6 starts.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (28-55) lost 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Hicks got the start for the Hooks and was solid allowing 3 runs over 5 innings with 7 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the 5th on a Palma solo HR and a run on an error. They got 3 more in the 6th inning on Palma and Arocho RBI triples and a run on a wild pitch. Henderson tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief. Brockhouse was unable to hold the lead allowing 3 runs in the 8th as the Hooks fell 6-5.

Note: Cole has a .811 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (36-45) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

True started for Asheville and allowed 3 runs over 4.2 innings with 2 strikeouts. The offense got on the board with a run in the 4th on an error. They got another run in the 7th on a Caldera RBI groundout. The offense would get some guys on but was unable to come through as they fell 3-2.

Note: Deming has 14 doubles this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (38-46) won 8-2 (BOX SCORE

Nunez put the Woodpeckers on the board in the first with a solo HR. Pena started for the Woodpeckers and pitched well tossing 5 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. The offense got in the 3rd on a Hernandez solo HR and then got 3 runs in the 4th on Hernandez and Bush RBI singles and a run on an error. The picked up 2 more in the 7th on a Casserilla RBI single and Jaworsky RBI groundout. Jaworsky got another run in on a bases loaded hit by pitch. Marte allowed 2 runs while striking out 7 over the final 4 innings as he closed it out.

Note: Nunez is hitting .433 in July.
