Astros Minor League Recap: May 23rd

Another day of Astros minor league action is in the books. See the results below!

Here is the previous day’s recap.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (31-17) won 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

Leon got the scoring started connecting on a 3 run HR in the first inning, his 10th HR of the season. Gordon got the start and was rolling until the 5th when he ran into some trouble. He ended up allowing 5 runs over 4.2 innings of work, though only one was earned. The offense got one run in the 5th on a Cabbage sac fly to make it 5-4. In the 7th inning, Whitcomb came through with an RBI single to tie it at 5. The game went to the 8th tied and with the bases loaded, Bastidas connected on a 3 run double to give Sugar Land the lead. The pen held on for the 8-5 win.

Note: Leon leads all of baseball with 51 runs batted in.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (14-28) lost 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Bloss started for the Hooks and was pitching well racking up 7 strikeouts in 4 innings before he ran into trouble in the 5th. He ended up allowing 4 runs over 4.1 innings with 8 strikeouts. DeLabio allowed 2 runs in relief as thee Travelers extended their lead. The Hooks got 2 runs on an Espinosa 2 run HR in the 7th, but that was it from the offense as the Hooks fell 6-2.

Note: Bloss has 47 K in 38.2 innings this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (18-22) POSTPONED

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (20-22) lost 10-1 (BOX SCORE

Hernandez got Fayetteville on the board in the second inning with an RBI single. Tredwell got the start for the Woodpeckers but struggled allowing 6 runs over just 1.2 innings. He was relieved by Almonte who allowed 1 run over 3.1 innings. The pen allowed a few more runs as the Red Sox would go on to win 10-1.
