Astros Minor League Recap: May 23rd

Another day of minor league action is in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (19-26) won 9-5 (BOX SCORE)

McGowin started for Sugar Land and was solid until the 6th when he allowed 3 runs. Overall, he allowed 4 runs over 5.1 innings. Bannon put the Space Cowboys on the board in the 2nd inning with a 3 run HR. They got another in the 4th on a Perez RBI single. After falling behind 5-4, Sugar Land rallied for 3 runs in the 7th on a Lee RBI double, Matijevic RBI single and Leon RBI groundout. The offense got 2 more in the 8th on a Hensley 2 run single. Ruppenthal and Record tossed scoreless innings to close it out.

Note: Madris has a .406 OBP this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (18-22) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Brown started for the Hooks and allowed 2 runs, 1 earned over 4.1 innings. The Hooks first run came on a Loperfido RBI single in the first inning. Robaina pitched in relief and allowed 1 run over 4 innings of work. The Hooks entered the 9th down 3-1 but rallied. A Hamilton solo HR and Corona RBI single tied it at 3. With the bases loaded, Wagner walked it off with an RBI single to win it 4-3.

Note: Gilbert is hitting .349 in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (18-20) lost 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

Dezenzo put Asheville on the board in the first inning with a solo HR, his 4th HR of the season. Mancini got the start but ran into some trouble allowing 6 runs over 4 innings. Asheville got 2 back in the 6th on Borden and Wrobleski RBI doubles. Ullola pitched great in relief tossing 3 scoreless innings but the offense was unable to get anything else going as the Tourists fell 6-3.

Note: Dezenzo is hitting .411 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (16-23) lost 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

DeVos started for the Woodpeckers and went 5 innings allowing 3 runs, with all 3 coming in the 2nd inning. Dombroski pitched in relief and was dominant tossing 5 perfect innings with 8 strikeouts. Loftin put the Woodpeckers on the board with a solo HR in the 8th but that was it from the offense as the Woodpeckers fell 3-1.

Note: Dombroski has 53 K in 35.2 innings this season.
