Astros Minor League Recap: August 29th, 2021

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books and you can see all the Astros affiliates results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Skeeters (58-42) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Urqidu made a rehab start for the Skeeters and pitched really well allowing just 1 run in 5 innings of work. Matijevic put the Skeeters on the board with a 3 run HR in the 4th inning, his 22nd HR of the season. Sierra added 2 more runs in the 5th with a 2 run HR to make it 5-1. Donato struck out 4 over 1.2 scoreless in relief and then he was relieved by James who tossed 1.1 scoreless innings. Blanco closed it out with scoreless 9th inning.

Note: James has struck out 12 over his last 7.1 innings (no runs).


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (46-56) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Ruppenthal started for the Hooks and tossed 4.1 scoreless innings. Schreiber put the Hooks on the board in the first inning with a sac fly. Perez gave the Hooks some insurance in the 6th with a 3 run HR, his 17th of the season. Schreiber also added an RBI single the 8th. Brown allowed 2 runs in relief and Horrell allowed 2 runs in the 9th but was able to hold on for the save.

Note: Perez is hitting .295 with 17 HR this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (42-55) lost 19-11 (BOX SCORE)

Wild game in Asheville. Correa got the scoring started for the Tourists with a lead-off HR. They got another run in the 2nd on a Rodriguez RBI single. Cody got the start and went 4.1 innings allowing 3 runs. Abreu added an RBI double in the 4th and Whitcomb added an RBI single in the 5th. The bullpen really struggled though with Melendez allowed 5 runs and DeJuneas allowed 6 runs. The Tourists did rally for 6 runs in the 9th on a Correa RBI single, Whitcomb 3 run HR and Abreu 2 run HR but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.

Note: Whitcomb is hitting .313 with .923 OPS in August.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (46-56) won 9-1 (BOX SCORE)

Garcia started for the Woodpeckers and pitched well striking out 4 over 4.1 scoreless innings. Sandle got the scoring started in the 3rd inning with a 3 run HR. Kato added an RBI single in the 4th. In the 6th the Woodpeckers picked up 3 more runs on a wild pitch and Sandle 2 run triple. The offense continued to add on getting RBI singles from Williams and Perry. Salgado and Hiraldo tossed 2 scoreless innings each in relief to close it out.

Note: Sandle has a .995 OPS in 20 games this season.
