Astros Minor League Recap: July 30th, 2021

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books and you can see all the Astros affiliates results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Skeeters (42-31) lost 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

The Skeeters got on the board in the second inning scoring 3 runs on a bases loaded walk to Stubbs, a run on a wild pitch, and the third run on a De Goti RBI groundout. Hansen started for the Skeeters and went 4.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. Baez pitched in relief and was really good tossing 2 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. El Paso scored 3 runs off of James and Paredes in the 8th and the Skeeters were unable to respond as they fell 6-3.

Note: Siri is hitting .306 this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (34-42) lost 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Rosado started for the Hooks and went 6 innings allowing 3 runs while striking out 9. The Hooks finally got on the board in the 6th on a Hensley RBI single and a run scoring on an error. The RoughRiders got two runs back in the 7th before the Hooks responded with an RBI singles from Julks and Perez to bring the Hooks within a run. The offense went down in order in the 9th though as they lost 5-4.

Note: Adolph is hitting .692 over his last 5 games.


A+: Asheville Tourists (31-42) won 8-2 (BOX SCORE)

The offense jumped out to an early lead getting a run in the first on a double from Barefoot. In the 2nd inning they picked up 2 runs on Abreu and Whitcomb RBI singles. The offense would add 3 more in the 3rd on a Stubbs 2 run HR and Valdez RBI single. Ruppenthal started for the Tourists and went a season high 6.2 innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 5. Whitcomb added a 2 run HR in the 6th to extend the lead. DeJuneas tossed 1.1 scoreless innings and Sprinkled closed it out with a scoreless 9th to seal the 8-2 win.

Note: Whitcomb has 15 HR in 63 games this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (32-44) lost 15-10 (BOX SCORE)

Wild game for the Woodpeckers. Reina started and allowed 7 runs (all unearned) and walked 7, but didn’t allow a hit. Schroeder came in later and allowed 6 runs in 1.2 innings. The Woodpeckers got 2 runs in the 2nd on an error and a Hurtado RBI double. In the third they got an RBI single from Martinez. In the 5th Fayetteville rallied for 4 runs on another Martinez RBI single, Urdaneta RBI groundout and a Corona 2 run HR. The Woodpeckers scratched off another 3 runs in the 8th on a Guerrero RBI single and a run on an error and fielder’s choice but it wasn’t enough to overcome the big deficit as they lost 15-10.

Note: Brewer has 16 SB this season.
