Astros Minor League Recap: June 6th, 2021

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books and you can see all the Astros affiliates results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Skeeters (18-8) won 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

The Skeeters jumped out to an early lead getting a Toro RBI double in the first inning. In the second they pick up 4 runs on a Hinojosa RBI single, Shaver 2 run HR and another run scoring on a wild pitch. Conine got the start and allowed 5 runs, 3 earned over 5 innings. In the 8th the Skeeters took the lead scoring 3 runs on a Shaver RBI single and Toro 2 run single. Scrubb, Bielak, Velazquez, and Blanco all had scoreless outings in relief to close it out.

Note: De La Cruz is hitting .351 this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (13-16) won 7-5 (BOX SCORE)

Brown started and pitched well allowing just 1 hit and 1 run in 4 innings of work. Gonzalez drove in the first run for the Hooks with an RBI double in the first inning. In the 4th the Hooks picked up 4 more on back to back HRs from Matijevic (3 run) and Gonzalez. Tejada allowed 2 runs in his AA debut in just 0.2 innings and McKee and Serrano both allowed a run in relief. Gonzalez came through again in the 7th giving the Hooks the lead with a 2 run single. Olczak closed it with 1.1 scoreless innings.

Note: Gonzalez has 6 HR and a .915 OPS this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (13-16) lost 15-3 (BOX SCORE)

Rough game for the Tourists’ pitching staff. Freure started and allowed 5 runs in 3.1 innings. Ceballos allowed 1 unearned run and then Brown got really roughed up allowing 8 runs and retiring just 1 batter. Barefoot put the Tourists on the board in the 6th with a 2 run HR, his 8th of the season. In the 7th, McKenna added a solo HR, his 7th of the year but it wasn’t enough to overcome the pitching yesterday.

Note: McKenna has a .988 OPS with 8 HR this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (12-17) won 6-0 (BOX SCORE)

Barry started the game with a scoreless inning and Drennan followed that up with 2 scoreless. Berryhill put the Woodpeckers on the board in the second with a sac fly and Ramirez added a 2 run HR in the 3rd to make it 3-0. The offense added 3 more insurance runs in the 5th on an Arias RBI single and Dirden 2 run triple. Vega tossed 5 scoreless innings in relief and Garcia closed it out with a scoreless 9th.

Note: Martinez has a .516 OBP this season.
