Astros Minor League Recap: September 1st, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (81-56) won 8-2 (BOX SCORE)

Sneed started for Fresno and while he allowed just 1 run over 5 innings, he had 5 BB/2 K. The offense got the scoring started in the 5th getting a 2 run single from Davis. In the 7th, Stubbs added an RBI single to make it 3-1. Fresno added so more insurance in the 8th scoring 4 runs on a Reed RBI single and Ferguson 3 run HR. Mayfield added an RBI single in the 9th. Guduan closed it out allowing a run over 2 innings.

Note: Alvarez is hitting .310 with 8 RBI over his last 10 games.

  • Dean Deetz, RHP: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
  • Reymin Guduan, LHP: 2.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (80-56) lost 12-8 (BOX SCORE)

Bailey started for the Hooks and pitched well early on but allowed 3 runs in the 5th and 2 in the 6th as he allowed 5 runs in 5 innings. The Hooks got on the board in the 3rd on a Birk sac fly. They took the lead in the 5th scoring 5 runs on a Wrenn RBI single, Toro bases loaded walk, Jones 2 run single, and Cesar sac fly. In the 7th they picked up 2 more runs on a Toro RBI double and Cesar RBI single. Unfortunately the bullpen struggled allowing 7 runs and they lost 12-8.

Note: Dawson is hitting .350 with 3 HR, 10 RBI over his last 10 games.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (78-57) lost 7-5 (BOX SCORE)

Javier started but struggled only lasting 1.2 innings. He was relieved by McKee who allowed 3 runs over his 1.2 innings. The offense got 2 runs back in the 3rd on a Beer 2 run single. Duarte added an RBI double in the 4th to cut the deficit to 1 run. Carolina then picked up 3 more runs off DeJuneas and Paredes to take a 7-3 lead. Buies Creek scored 2 in the 9th on a Matijevic 2 run single but couldn’t score anymore and lost 7-5.

Note: Matijevic has 51 XBH in 100 games this season.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (79-59) won 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

Abreu got the start and was very good striking out 8 over 4 scoreless innings. McKenna put the River Bandits on the board with a 3 run HR in the 3rd inning. They got two more in the 5th with a run scoring on an error and another on a bases loaded HBP to Salazar. Quad Cities picked up 2 more in the 6th on a McKenna RBI single and Taylor bases loaded walk. The bullpen allowed 4 runs but the offense did enough damage to win it easily.

Note: Abreu has a 1.49 ERA with 90 K in 54.1 innings this season.
