Astros Minor League Recap: August 2nd, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (63-47) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Rough loss late for the Grizzlies. Armenteros got the start and tossed five scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. Fresno got on the board in the 4th on an Alvarez RBI groundout. Deetz relieved Armenteros and tossed 2 scoreless innings. Guduan allowed Nashville to tie it up in the 8th and McCurry allowed a run in the 9th as Nashville walked it off.

Note: Deetz has a 0.00 ERA with 28 K in 15 innings for Fresno this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (68-42) lost 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

Toro put the Hooks on the board with an RBI double in the 2nd inning. Dykxhoorn got the start and lsted just 4.1 innings allowing 3 runs, 2 earned. He was relieved by Bostick who pitched well allowing 1 unearned run over the final 3.2 innings. Unfortunately, the offense was unable to get anything else going as they lost 4-1.

Note: Dykxhoorn has a 3.50 ERA this season between AA/AAA.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (61-48) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Bukauskas made his Buies Creek debut and was solid allowing 2 runs over 5 innings while striking out 5. De La Cruz put the Astros on the board with an RBI single in the 6th. Buies Creek went into the 9th down 3-1. Buies Creek loaded the bases in he 9th for Arauz who came through with a walk-off 3 run double to win it.

Note: Paredes has a 0.50 ERA with 47 K in 35.2 innings over his last 10 outings.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (61-48) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Donato got the start and allowed 2 runs over 6 innings. The River Bandits got on the board in the 3rd when Sierra singled and later scored on an error. They picked up 3 more in the 4th on a Shaver RBI single, Papierski RBI double and Sierra RBI single. Abreu closed the game out striking out 6 over the final 3 innings.

Note: Abreu has a 0.54 ERA with 32 K in 16.2 innings for Quad Cities.

  • Bryan Abreu, RHP: 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K (SAVE)

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (25-20) lost 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Note: McKenna has a .938 OPS in 26 games this season.
