Astros Minor League Recap: August 15th, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (70-52) lost 9-6 (BOX SCORE)

The Grizzlies got off to a fast start lat night scoring 4 runs in the first inning on a Reed RBI groundout, run scoring on an error, and a Davis 2 run HR. Armenteros started but struggled a little bit allowing 4 runs in 5.2 innings. The game went into the 8th tied 4-4 but Ferrell allowed 4 runs as Las Vegas took the lead. The Grizzlies picked up a run in the 8th on a Reed solo HR and another in the 9th on a Mayfield RBI single but it wasn’t enough as they fell 9-6.

Note: Davis has 3 HR, 8 RBI in 5 games since rejoining Fresno.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (75-46) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks jumped out to an early lead scoring 2 runs in the 2nd on a Quintana 2 run triple. In the 3rd inning Benedetti added a solo HR to make it 3-0. The Hooks added 2 more runs in the 4th on a Birk solo HR and a Sierra RBI single. Dykxhoorn got the start and allowed 2 runs over 6.2 innings. McCormick added a solo HR in the 8th for the 6th run. The bullpen was great striking out 6 over the final 2.1 innings as they sealed the 6-2 win.

Note: Toro is hitting .414 with 7 RBI over his last 8 games.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (68-51) won 5-0 (BOX SCORE)

Bukauskas got the start for Buies Creek and dominated tossing 7 shutout innings allowing just 1 hit. Buies Creek got on the board with a sac fly from Adams and Marquez. In the 5th they picked up 2 more runs on a Julks RBI double and Duarte RBI groundout. De La Cruz added an RBI single in the 8th for insurance. Sanabria closed it out tossing 2 scoreless innings.

Note: Bukauskas has a 1.00 ERA in 18 innings for Buies Creek.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (69-53) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Garcia started for Quad Cities and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5 innings. Unfortunately the offense struggled scoring just 1 run on a Sierra RBI single in the 5th. The bullpen was solid but Kane County was able to pick up a run in the 10th inning to win it 2-1.

Note: Garcia has a 1.72 ERA over his last 10 outings.


A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (33-23) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Note: Conine has 26 K in 21.2 innings this season.
