Astros Minor League Recap: June 30th, 2018

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (48-33) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)
Armenteros was on the mound for the Grizzlies and pitched well early on tossing 5 scoreless innings but allowed 3 runs in the 6th. Kemmer got the Grizzlies on the board with an RBI double in the 2nd inning. Davis connected on a 2 run HR in the 3rd inning. Davis wasn’t done as he would add a solo HR in the 5th. The bullpen was solid going 4 innings without allowing a run including really good outings from Deetz and McCurry.
Note: Straw is hitting .350 in 14 AAA games.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (49-29) won 6-3 (BOX SCORE)
Whitley started for the Hooks and while the overall line didn’t look great (3 ER in 4 IP), all 3 runs came on a HR in the first inning. Overall he struck out 5 in his 4 innings of work. Alvarez got the Hooks on the board with a solo HR in the 2nd inning, his 11th HR of the season. Alvarez added an RBI double in the 6th to make it 3-2. The Hooks would take the lead in the 7th scoring 3 runs on a McCormick 2 run single and another run scoring on a wild pitch. Bielak made his AA debut and pitched well tossing 4.2 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts. Pinales came on to get the last out and pick up the save.
Note: Alvarez is hitting .370 with 5 HR, 14 RBI in 11 June games.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (45-34) won 7-3 (BOX SCORE)
Bailey started for Buies Creek and put together a strong outing allowing 2 runs over 6.1 innings while striking out 7. Buies Creek was down 2-0 in the 6th but that is when they started to rally. Robinson got them on the board with a solo HR in the 6th. In the 7th, they picked up 3 runs on a Dawson RBI double, Duarte RBI triple, and Adams RBI single. Buies Creek would get some more insurance scoring 3 more in the 8th on a Toro sac fly, Dawson RBI double, and De La Cruz RBI single. Valdez closed it out with a scoreless 9th.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (44-36) won 4-1 (BOX SCORE)
Donato made his debut for Quad Cities last night and was very good striking out 7 over 6 innings while allowing just 1 run. Lacroix got the River Bandits on the board with a solo HR in the 3rd. The game would stay tied 1-1 until the 8th inning when the River Bandits picked up 2 runs on a run scoring wild pitch and Sierra RBI single. Sanabria closed it out with 3 scoreless innings.
Note: Donato has a 0.41 ERA and 4 BB/28 K in 4 starts this season.
