Astros Minor League Recap: July 21st

Astros Minor League Recap: July 21st, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (57-43) lost 7-4 (BOX SCORE)

Rodgers made his 2nd AAA start this year but this one didn’t go well as he allowed 6 runs in just 3.1 innings. Alvarez got the Grizzlies on the board in the 2nd inning with a 2 run HR, his 15th HR of the season. Fresno picked up two more in the 6th on Jones and Ritchie solo HRs. The early deficit was too much and they lost 7-4.

Note: Alvarez is hitting .308 with 3 HR, 6 RBI over his last 8 games.

Fresno also finished a game that was suspended on June 3rd (BOX SCORE)

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (63-35) won 7-6 (BOX SCORE)

Martin started for the Hooks and pitched really well allowing just 1 run over 6 innings while striking out 6. The Hooks picked up a run in the 3rd on an error. Wrenn connected on a solo HR in the 6th to make it 2-1. The Hooks held a 2-1 until the 9th when Midland was able to tie. Corpus Christi then exploded for 5 runs in the 10th inning on a Benedetti 2 run single, Wrenn 2 run double, and another run scoring on an error. It wouldn’t be easy to close it out though as Midland battled and scored 4 runs but the Hooks were able to close it out.

Note: Martin has a 1.79 ERA over his last 10 Double-A outings.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (56-43) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

LaRue got the start for Buies Creek last night and pitched really well striking out 8 over 5.2 innings while allowing just 1 run. Dawson put Buies Creek on the board in the first inning with an RBI single. De La Cruz added an RBI single in the 3rd and Robinson had an RBI double in the 4th. Robinson also had a solo HR in the 6th. Paredes tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief and DeJuneas closed it out with a scoreless 9th.

Note: De La Cruz is hitting .306 over his last 10 games.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (54-44) won 4-0 (BOX SCORE)

Dominating pitching performance for the River Bandits. Bukauskas made his first start for Quad Cities since going on the DL and turned in maybe his best professional outing. He tossed 5 scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits while striking out 7. He was relieved by Abreu who struck out 7 over his 4 innings for the combined shutout. The offense scored 4 runs in the 4th inning on an Angarita RBI double, Schreiber RBI double and Mattix 2 run HR. This was more than enough for Bukauskas and Abreu.

Note: Abreu has a 0.74 ERA with 37 K in 24.2 innings this season.
