Astros Minor League Recap: July 11th, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (52-37) OFF


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (57-30) won 11-6 (BOX SCORE)

Another big offensive performance for Corpus Christi. The offense got on the board scoring 3 runs in the 2nd inning on a Benedetti 2 run triple and a Sierra RBI single. The Hooks picked up 4 runs in the 3rd on a McCormick RBI single, Sierra 2 run single, and Pineda RBI single. Alcala got the start and allowed 3 runs over 6 innings of work. Birk continued the scoring with an RBI double in the 4th. Quintana added a 2 run triple in the 8th to put the game out of reach. The bullpen allowed a few runs but the offense did enough to seal the win.

Note: Quintana is hitting .382 with 5 HR, 15 RBI over his last 10 games.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (51-39) won 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

Sandoval has been unreal over the last couple months and he picked up right where he left off his last outing. Last night he tossed 7 shutout innings allowing just 1 hit with 8 strikeouts. The offense was scoreless through the first 6 innings but picked up 2 in the 7th on a fielder’s choice and a Duarte RBI single. Canelon added a sac fly in the 9th inning for a 3rd run. McKee relieved Sandoval and allowed a run over the final two innings as he closed the game out.

Note: Sandoval last 8 outings – 0.00 ERA, 41.0 IP, 24 H, 0 ER, 5 BB, 47 K


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (50-39) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Paredes started for the River Bandits and was solid allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, over 4.2 innings while striking out 8. Quad Cities picked up a run in the 4th on a Hensley RBI double to tie it at 1. The River Bandits took the lead in the 6th scoring 2 runs on a wild pitch and a sac fly. Abreu and Donato closed the game out with scoreless outings as Donato picked up the save.

Note: Paredes has a 1.54 ERA with 66 K in 52.2 innings this season.
