Astros Minor League Recap: May 29th, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (31-22) won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Josh James has got it going a bit in AAA and yesterday was a very good start for him as he allowed just 1 run over 7 innings while striking out 9. Mayfield put the Grizzlies on the board with an RBI double in the 4th. Mayfield also had a sac fly in the 6th to put Fresno up 2-1. The bullpen was solid tossing two scoreless innings to close it.

Note: James has a 2.93 ERA and 67 K in 43 innings between AA and AAA this season.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (30-21) won 11-4 (BOX SCORE)

Taylor Jones continued his hot start to the season with an RBI single in the first. In the second inning, the Hooks scored 3 runs on a Ritchie RBI single, wild pitch, and Jones sac fly. Hartman allowed 4 runs in 4 innings as the starter. The Hooks blew the game open in the 6th scoring 6 runs on a Ritchie RBI single, Straw bases loaded walk, Rojas 3 run triple, and Cesar RBI single. Quiala closed the game out tossing 5 scoreless innings in relief.

Note: Straw is hitting .363 with .461 OBP and 31 SB in 49 games this season.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (29-22) won 11-6 (BOX SCORE)

LaRue got the start and struggled a bit allowing 5 runs, 4 earned, but still was able to go 5 innings. Dawson got the Astros on the board with a 2 run HR in the 1st inning. After falling behind 5-2, Buies Cree rallied for 5 runs in the 6th on a Toro 2 run double, McCormick RBI single, Duarte RBI single, and another run scoring on an error. Matijevic added some insurance in the 8th with a 2 run HR. The bullpen was solid closing the game out.

Note: Matijevic is hitting .359 with 4 HR, 7 RBI over his last 10 games.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (30-22) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Patrick Sandoval got the start and pitched well. He allowed 2 runs, both unearned, over 5 innings of work while striking out 6. Quad Cities got on the board in the 4th on a Sierra RBI single. Shaver tied he game in the 5th with a solo HR. Sierra gave the River Bandits a lead in the 6th with a 2 run HR. Rosado closed the game out with 4 scoreless innings to pick up the save.

Note: Sandoval last 7 outings – 1.59 ERA, 34.0 IP, 7 BB, 41 K
