Astros Minor League Recap: May 22nd, 2018

Another day of minor league baseball in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (28-18) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Armenteros had another solid outing last night striking out 8 in 5 innings while allowing 3 runs. Reed put the Grizzlies on the board with a 2 run double in the 4th inning. The game would move to the 9th with Fresno trailing 3-2. After the first two batters reached, Garcia came through with a 2 run walk-off single to win. Garza made his AAA debut and pitched 3 scoreless innings.

Note: Reed has 37 RBI in 43 games this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (26-19) won 9-3 (BOX SCORE)

Ryan Hartman got the start for the Hooks last night and was solid allowing 3 runs over 6 innings while striking out 7. Quintana got the Hooks on the board with an RBI single in the 2nd inning. In the 5th inning the Hooks rallied for 6 runs on a Quintana solo HR, Wrenn RBI single, Rojas RBI single, Jones RBI single, Benedetti RBI single, and DeGoti RBI single. Nunn and Ferrell combined to throw 3 scoreless innings in relief as the Hooks picked up the win.

Note: Rojas is hitting .475 with 6 RBI, 5 SB over his last 10 games.


A+: Buies Creek Astros (25-19) won 12-4 (BOX SCORE)

Hector Perez has struggled a bit this season but was very good last night allowing just 1 run over 5 innings. The offense got things started quick on a Toro RBI double and McCormick RBI double in the 1st inning. Dawson added an RBI single in the 5th and Duarte stole home on a double steal to extend the lead. In the 7th the Astros picked up 2 more on a Dawson RBI single and Matijevic RBI triple to make it 7-1. The offense capped the game with a McCormick RBI double and Payano 2 run HR in the 9th. Bielak allowed 3 runs in relief but the offense scored more than enough to win it.

Note: Matijevic is hitting .326 with 1.018 OPS in 24 games this season.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (24-20) won 8-0 (BOX SCORE)

Leovanny Rodriguez pitched in his second game of the season yesterday and was dominant allowing just 2 hits over 5 shutout innings with 9 strikeouts. Adams got the scoring started with a solo HR in the 4th. In the 5th the River Bandits picked up 2 runs on a Julks RBI single and Sierra RBI double. They picked up 2 more in the 6th on Meyers 2 run double and 2 more in the 7th on a Jake Adams 2 run HR. The bullpen of Mushinski and Garcia had scoreless outings contributing to the combined shutout.

Note: Mushinski has a 1.34 ERA with 45 K in 33.2 innings this season.
