Astros Minor League Recap: May 11th, 2018

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (21-15) lost 8-5 (BOX SCORE)
Fresno jumped out to a 4-1 lead when the picked up 4 runs in the 3rd on a Davis bases loaded walk and a Reed 2 run single. Paulino made his third outing of the season and while the results weren’t great (4 ER in 5 IP), the peripherals were solid (2 BB/8 K). The Fresno bullpen struggled with Thome giving up 4 runs. Garcia would add a sac fly for the Grizzlies in the 8th but it wasn’t enough as Fresno fell 8-5.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (18-16) lost 7-6 (BOX SCORE)
Wild back and forth game for the Hooks. They scored early getting 1 run in the first on a Benedetti RBI single and 3 runs in the 2nd on Wrenn 2 run double and Rojas RBI single. Framber Valdez got the start and struggled allowing 5 runs in 5 innings, though he did have 9 strikeouts. The Hooks would get 2 runs in the 6th on a De Goti RBI single and another on a wild pitch to take a 6-5 lead. Unfortunately, Midland rallied back getting 2 runs in the 8th and winning this one 7-6.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (21-14) lost 9-6 (BOX SCORE)
Hector Perez got the start and struggled early on allowing 4 runs in the first two innings. The offense battled back though getting 3 in the 3rd on a Matijevic RBI single and a Duarte 2 run double. They got two more in the 5th on a Toro single and McCormick sav fly to tie the game at 5. Valdez relieved Perez and allowed 3 runs in just 0.2 innings. Buies Creek got one back in the 9th on a Matijevic RBI triple but Sierra would strikeout with the bases loaded in the 9th as Buies Creek fell 9-6.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (19-14) won 8-1 (BOX SCORE)
Nice game for Quad Cities. Mushinski got the start and pitched well despite walking 5 batters. The offense was silent to start but broke out with 2 in the 6th on a Sierra RBI single and De La Cruz sac fly. They would get 2 more in the 7th on a Meyers 2 run double. The River Bandits added 4 more in the 8th on a Lacroix RBI single, Meyers RBI single and Arauz 2 run single. The bullpen was very good tossing 4 scoreless innings to close it out.
