Astros Minor League Recap: June 28th, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (41-38) won 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno got off to a hot start in this one scoring 2 in the first inning on a Fisher RBI triple and Moran RBI single. They got 2 more in the 2nd on a Brignac 2 run HR. In the 3rd inning, they put up 3 more runs on a Stassi RBI single and Garcia 2 run single. Thornton got the start going 5 innings allowing 4 runs, 3 earned. The bullpen was great with McCurry tossing 2 innings with 4 strikeouts and Diaz striking out 2 in the 8th. Hernandez added an RBI single in the 7th to make it 8-5. Comer struck out 2 in a scoreless 9th to pick up the save.

Note: Moran is hitting .412 with 3 HR, 11 RBI over his last 10 games


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (38-38) OFF


A+: Buies Creek Astros (40-37) won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Valdez was the story in this one. He got the start and was dominant allowing just 1 run (3 hits) over 8 innings with 11 strikeouts. He also did so on just 97 pitches. He now has 73 K in 61.1 innings for Buies Creek. Buies Creek got their first run in the 3rd on an Alvarez bases loaded walk. In the 5th, Alvarez gave Buies Creek the lead with an RBI double. Garza pitched a perfect 9th to pick up the save.

Note: Straw is hitting .393 in June with 18 BB/9 K in 22 games.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (41-34) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Whitley got the start in this one and pitched well allowing just 1 unearned run over 5.1 innings. Quad Cities entered the 8th down 1-0 but a Franco RBI single tied it. They would take a 2-1 lead in the 11th when Dawson scored on a wild pitch but Wisconsion bounced back with a run in the bottom half. The game would stay tied at 2 until the 13th when Wisconsin was able to walk it off for the win.

Note: Whitley has a 2.91 ERA with 21 BB/67 K in 46.1 innings this season.

Game 2 – lost 10-3 (BOX SCORE)


Rookie: Greeneville Astros (4-3) lost 6-3 (BOX SCORE)
