Astros Minor League Recap: June 24th, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (38-38)

GAME 1 – won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Coleman got the start in game one and pitched well allowing just 2 runs over 6 innings of work. Fresno scored all 6 runs in 4th inning on a Reed RBI walk, Brignac RBI walk, Kemmer 3 run triple, and Kemp RBI triple. West pitched a perfect 7th inning to close it out.

Note: Kemp is hitting .476 over his last 10 games

GAME 2 – won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

Deetz was on the mound in game 2 and only lasted 3.2 innings but allowing just 1 run (3 walks). Fresno was down 1-0 entering the 4th but tied the game on a White solo HR, his 11th. In the 5th they got 2 runs on a Kemmer solo HR and another scoring on an error. They capped their scoring with 3 runs in the 6th on a Kemmer RBI single, Stassi RBI single, and Kemp RBI single. Sacramento got 1 back off Comer but Fresno was able to hold on for the win.

Note: Kemmer is hitting .301 with 10 HR, 35 RBI in 53 games.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (37-38) won 11-4 (BOX SCORE

Dykxhoorn got the start last night and pitched very well. He carried a shutout into the 7th inning and gave up 1 run before being pulled. Another run scored after he was pulled but he finished going 6.2 innings allowing just 2 runs. The offense got going early on a Tucker solo HR in the first inning, his 6th in AA and 15th HR overall this season. In the 4th, Corpus scored 3 more times on a Singleton solo HR (14) and a Martin 2 run HR (4th in AA, 11th overall).

Corpus continued to play add-on in the 6th inning getting a run from a Mayfield solo HR. They got another run in the 7th on a Davis RBI single. The offense put the game out of reach with 5 runs in the 8th. In that inning they got an RBI single from Laureano, Tucker 2 run single, and a Stubbs 2 run single. Dorris and Ferrell pitched in relief each allowing a run but the offense scored plenty to secure the win.

Note: Tucker is hitting .346 with 4 HR, 10 RBI over his last 6 games


A+: Buies Creek Astros (38-35) lost 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Perez got the start last night and had a rough first inning allowing 4 runs. He was better after that tossing 4 scoreless innings. His final line was 5 IP, 4 R, 7 K. The offense struggled but finally got on the board in the 8th inning on an RBI single from Alvarez. They would get one more in the 9th on a DeGoti RBI single but couldn’t get anything else going and fell 4-2.

Note: Straw is hitting .335 with 35 BB/27 K in 43 games since May 1st


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (39-32) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Nice come from behind win for the River Bandits last night. LaRue was on the mound and pitched very well going 6 innings allowing 2 runs with 8 strikeouts. Quad Cities entered the bottom the 4th down 1-0 but got on the board thanks to a 2 run HR from Dawson, his 6th of the season. In the 5th inning Cameron connected on a solo HR, his 8th of the season, to give the River Bandits a 3-2 lead. Hill tossed 3 scoreless innings in relief to close it out.

Note: LaRue is now 8-2 with a 2.67 ERA and 21 BB/66 K in 67.1 innings this season.
