Astros Minor League Recap: June 13th, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (30-33) won 10-9 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno got the offense going last night. Moran kicked off the scoring with a 2 run HR in the first inning, his 13th HR of the season and third consecutive game with a homer. After falling behind 5-2, Fresno got 1 back in the 4th on a Kemmer RBI double. They would get 2 more runs in the 5th on a Fisher RBI double and Moran RBI single.

In the 6th inning they took the lead with 3 runs thanks to a 2 run single from Kemp and a Fisher RBI single. Coleman got the start allowing 6 runs over 6 innings. Guduan was solid in relief tossing 2 scoreless outings. Fresno would enter the 8th down 9-8 but took the lead with 2 runs on a White 2 run double. Jankowski pitched a scoreless 9th to pick up the save.

Note: Moran is hitting .382 with 5 HR, 11 RBI over his last 8 games.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (30-34) lost 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

One big inning hurt the Hooks. They grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 2nd on a Nunez RBI single but it wouldn’t last. James got the start and pitched well the first 2 innings but allowing 6 runs in the 3rd with another scoring off of Ferrell. Corpus struggled to get anything going on offense but would get 3 runs in the 7th on a Ferguson RBI single and two runs scoring on an error. The bullpen was solid allowing 2 runs over 5.2 innings.

Note: Stutzman has 6 BB/27 K in 20.2 innings for Corpus Christi


A+: Buies Creek Astros (35-30) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)

Last night was the Quiala show for Buies Creek. Yoanys Quiala got the start and was excellent tossing 8 shutout innings allowing just 4 hits with 0 BB/6 K. He has flown under the radar but is having a great season with a 2.31 ERA and 59 K in 58.1 innings. Quiala is 23 years old, signed out of Cuba, and should be moving up to Corpus sometime soon.

Straw has been on fire and it continued last night as he picked up 2 hits and scoring 2 runs, the first coming on an RBI double from Ayarza in the 1st inning. Cesar added an RBI single to make it 2-0 in the first. Buies Creek picked up another run in the 5th on another Cesar RBI single. They continued to play add on scoring 1 in the 8th on a Porter RBI single and another run in the 9th on an Ayarza RBI double.

Note: Straw is hitting .465 with 7 RBI, 8 BB over his last 10 games.


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (33-30) lost 10-5 (BOX SCORE)

LaRue has been excellent this season but ran into some trouble last night allowing 6 runs, 4 earned in 3.2 innings. After falling behind 3-0, Quad Cities got 3 runs of their own with Cameron doubling, stealing third, and scoring on an error and an Alvarez 2 run homer later in the inning. Cedar Rapids would put 5 more runs on the board though making it 8-3. The River Bandits scored 2 more in the 8th on an Arauz RBI single and a Cameron sac fly but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Note: Alvarez is hitting .294 with 15 RBI over his last 10 games.
