Astros Minor League Recap: May 4th, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (12-16) lost 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Martinez was on the hill for the Grizzlies last night and had one of his better outings allowing 3 runs over 5 innings. Fresno finally got on the board on a Fisher RBI groundout in the 5th inning. Lefites, Guduan and Stutzman, both had scoreless outings. The Grizzlies would only score one more run on a Centeno  RBI single in the 9th but fell 4-2.

Note: Stutzman has a 1.59 ERA this season in 11.1 innings.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (15-12) lost 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

Another rough night for the Hooks’ offense. Sneed got the start last night and allowed 4 runs over 4 innings, though he did have 8 strikeouts. Boyd got the scoring started in 2nd inning when he drew a bases loaded walk. They would only get 1 more in the 4th with Hyde scoring on a balk. The bullpen went the next four allowing just 1 run.

Note: Singleton has 9 RBI and 10 BB in his last 10 games.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (19-9) won 9-4 (BOX SCORE)

Perez got the start last night and, while he struggled a bit, he still showed his ability striking out 7 over 5 innings. He allowed 4 runs, though just 2 earned. Buies Creek has one big inning but it was all they needed. In the 4th inning, Buies Creek scored all 9 runs. They got an RBI single from Duarte, RBI walk to Michelena, RBI walk to Sewald, Straw RBI single, and a 3 run double from McCall. The bullpen was great with Kessay throwing three scoreless innings and Hernandez striking out the side in the 9th.

Note: Straw is hitting .302 through 25 games this season.

Later in the inning, the River Bandits drew three straight walks and Almonte cleared the bases with a grand slam, his 2nd HR of the game and 5th of the season.
