Astros Minor League Recap: May 22nd, 2017
Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.
AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (18-27) lost 9-0 (BOX SCORE)
This game was closer than the final score indicated. Martinez got the start and was solid allowing 2 runs over 6.1 innings. Unfortunately, the offense had a rough day managing just 4 hits the entire game. Gudan tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in relief. Memphis exploded for 7 in the 9th to really put the game out of reach.
Note: Hernandez is hitting .286 with an .881 OPS this season.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (22-22) won 7-6 (BOX SCORE)
Wild game for Corpus Christ last night. Smith got the start and went 5 innings allowing 3 runs, though all 3 were unearned. He lowered his ERA to 3.23 this season. Laureano got the Hooks scoring started with an RBI groundout in the 2nd inning. In the 6th, Davis connected on a 2 run HR, his 10th HR of the season. Corpus entered the 8th inning down 4-3 but took the lead on back to back HR from Woodward and Ferguson.
Frisco re-took the lead in the bottom of the 8th with their own two runs. Corpus wouldn’t go away though as Laureano came through with a big 2 run triple to re-take the lead. Laureano has struggled a bit but does have 22 RBI in 41 games. Thompson pitched a scoreless 9th to close it out.

A+: Buies Creek Astros (27-18) lost 8-1 (BOX SCORE)
Couple rough days for Buies Creek. Perez has been great this season but had his first bad start last night allowing 8 runs, 5 earned over 5 innings of work. He still has a 3.03 ERA this season with 53 K in 38.2 innings. The offense only managed 3 hits with the lone run coming on a Martin solo HR in the 9th inning. Sierra had another strong outing tossing 3 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts in relief.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (21-21) won 5-1 (BOX SCORE)
Cionel Perez put on a show last night for Quad Cities. He was dominant from the start striking out 7 of the first 10 batters. He finished tossing 7 no-hit innings with just 1 BB/10 K. He also did this on just 78 pitches. Almonte got Quad Cities on the board in the 2nd inning with a 2 run HR. In the bottom of the 8th the River Bandits added 3 more runs on a Robinson 2 run double and a Dawson RBI single. Hill pitched the last 2 innings allowing 1 earned run.
Note: Robinson is hitting .333 with 2 HR, 8 RBI over his last 10 games.
