Astros Minor League Recap: May 17th, 2017

Another day of baseball in the books. See how the teams and prospects performed in their games last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (16-24) won 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

Paulino made his second start back from the DL yesterday and pitched well allowing 3 runs over 6 innings. Fisher got Fresno on the board with an RBI double in the 5th inning. Fresno entered the 6th down 3-1 but tied the game on a Moran RBI double and a Brignac sac fly. Nashville took a 4-3 lead, but Fresno tied it right back up on a Kemmer solo HR in the 8th. In the top of the 9th, Nashville took a lead again, this time 5-4. Fresno wasn’t done though. Tucker lead off with a walk and then Reed connected on a deep 2 run HR to right field to give Fresno the walk-off win.

Note: Moran has 5 HR, 19 RBI in just 23 games this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (18-21) lost 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Emanuel was on the mound for the Hooks last night. He 5.1 innings allowing 5 runs, 4 earned. Davis continued his hot hitting with a solo HR to lead off the 4th inning. Corpus was down 5-1 and tried to rally getting 2 in the 8th on a Nunez RBI single and a Woodward RBI groundout. Thompson and Stutzman had scoreless relief outings but the offense wasn’t able to get anything else going.

Note: Davis is now hitting .285 with 9 HR in 32 games


A+: Buies Creek Astros (25-15) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)

This game got off to a quick start with Buies Creek scoring on a Rogers RBI triple in the first inning. After Myrtle Beach tied the game in the bottom of the 1st, Buies Creek dropped 3 runs in the 2nd on a Rogers bases loaded walk and a Tucker 2 run single. Adcock started for Buies Creek and allowed 2 runs over his 5 innings of work. McCall added a sac fly in the 5th and Tucker added an RBI single in the 6th for some insurance runs. Winkelman relieved Adcock and struck out 7 over 3.1 scoreless innings. Brey came in and picked up the last two outs to close out the game.

Note: Winkelman has 46 K in 32.1 IP this season


A: Quad Cities River Bandits (19-18) won 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

Valdez pitched the first 4 innings last night striking out 7 but was pulled after a weather delay. Quad Cities struck first getting 2 runs in the 1st inning on a Henderson RBI single and a Benedetti RBI double. They exploded for 4 in the 3rd inning on a Jones sac fly, Franco RBI groundout, and Duarte 2 run single. C. Perez pitched the next 4 innings allowing 2 runs. Pinales tossed a scoreless 9th inning to close it out.

Note: Benedetti has 4 doubles in his last 3 games
