Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 28th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (56-48)

GAME 1 – lost 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

This game started out great for Fresno with AJ Reed hitting a 2 run HR in the first, his 14th HR in AAA. Hauschild was on the mound for Fresno but he got roughed up in the 2nd and 3rd innings allowing 6 runs over his 5 innings of work. Fresno responded with 2 in the 3rd inning on a Reed RBI single and Moran RBI single. They would inch closer with an Aplin solo HR in the 4th. Unfortunately, Fresno was unable to score again and fell in game one 6-5.

GAME 2 – won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno picks up a split of the doubleheader. Peacock got the start and was great once again. He went 6 innings allowing no runs with 3 strikeouts. The game was scoreless until Kemmer broke the 0-0 tie with a 2 run HR in the 6th inning, his 9th HR of the season. Hoyt came on to pick up the save and allowed an unearned run but did pick up 2 strikeouts.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (62-42) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Tough loss late for Corpus Christi. The Hooks jumped out to an early lead with a Fisher RBI single in the first inning scoring Laureano. They would add another run in the 2nd on a Garcia RBI double. Grills got the start and was great for 8 innings. Linares left him out for the 9th hoping for the complete game but he ended up allowing 2 runs before being replaced by West. The Hooks were able to get two on in the 9th but couldn’t tie it.

  • Aaron West, RHP: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (57-46) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Another win for Lancaster as they rallied late. Armenteros got the start and allowed 2 runs over 4 innings with 6 strikeouts. Lancaster got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Wik sac fly. They would end up entering the 7th down 3-1. In the 7th they got a solo HR from Ferguson and another run scoring on an error to tie it at 3. Ferguson broke that tie in the 8th with an RBI double. Weathersby struck 6 over 3 innings and Deemes and Dorris combined to toss two scoreless innings to win it.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (49-53) won 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

Crazy game in Quad Cities last night. The River Bandits jumped out to an early lead scoring 3 runs in the first inning on a 2 run HR from Trompiz and a solo HR from McCall. They would get two more in the 2nd on a Roa solo HR and a bases loaded walk to McCall. They were up 5-1 but Peoria scored 5 unearned runs in the 4th to take the lead. Quad Cities went into the 8th down 7-5 but got a run back on a Straw RBI double. In the 9th trailing by a run, McCall hit another HR, his second of the game to tie it. The game would go to extra innings and in the 11th Straw lead off with a triple and scored on a Trompiz walk-off RBI single.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (22-17) won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Nice 1 run win for the ValleyCats. Nicely got the start and had one of his better outings allowing just 1 run over 5 innings. The ValleyCats scored first getting 2 runs in the 2nd inning on a Johnson RBI triple and a Mejia sac fly. The offense didn’t get much else going but they didn’t need to. Stutzman tossed one scoreless inning and Barrios closed it with 3 shutout innings.

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (18-16) POSTPONED
