Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 27th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (55-47) lost 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

Frias made his AAA debut last night for Fresno but he gave up 6 runs over 6 innings of work including 3 homers. Fresno would get on the board in the 3rd inning on an AJ Reed solo HR, his 13th in AAA. They would be held scoreless until the bottom of the 9th when Kemmer added a 2 run HR to make it 6-3. Gustave tossed a scoreless inning and Guduan struck out 4 over 2 innings to keep Las Vegas in check but Fresno was unable to complete the comeback.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (62-41) won 3-0 (BOX SCORE)

Possibly the Astros top pitching prospect, Martes, was on the mound last night and he did not disappoint. He finished going 7 innings allowing just one hit, no runs, and striking out 9. Corpus took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a bases loaded walk to Laureano. Garcia added a solo HR, his 2nd in AA, to extend the lead to 2-0. Nunez added an RBI groundout in the 9th to make it 3-0. Thompson tossed a scoreless 8th inning and Cotton struck out 2 in a scoreless 9th to pick up the save.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (56-46) won 7-2 (BOX SCORE)

Lancaster keeps on rolling. James was on the mound for Lancaster last night and allowed just 1 run over his 5 innings of work. The Jethawks were down 1-0 going into the 4th but took the lead with 2 runs on a Wik sac fly and Duarte scoring on a wild pitch. Ballard added an RBI double in the 5th to make it a 3-1 game. Lake Elsinore scored a run in the 6th to make it 3-2 but Lancaster would respond immediately. In the 7th Sewald added a 2 run double extend the lead to 5-2. Duarte would cap off the scoring with a 2 run HR in the 9th for Lancaster. Thome tossed 2 scoreless innings to pick up the save.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (48-53) lost 8-2 (BOX SCORE)

This game was a lot closer than the score indicates as Peoria blew it open in the 9th. Quiala got the start and tossed 8 innings allowing 2 runs with 4 strikeouts. Quad Cities got on the board first with a solo HR from Tucker, his 4th of the season. Down 2-1 in the 7th, Cesar hit a solo HR to tie it at 2. The game would stay tied at 2 until the 9th when Peoria put up 6 runs to blow it up. Quad Cities was unable to respond.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (21-17) OFF

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (18-16) won 5-3 (BOX SCORE)
