Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 24th
Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.
AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (53-46) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)
Rodgers got the start for Fresno was last night and once again was dominant. He finished going 7 innings allowing no runs with 4 strikeouts. Fresno jumped out to an early lead with an 2 run triple from Kemmer and a Heineman RBI single in the first inning. Singleton added a run in the 5th inning on an RBI double to make it 4-0. Fresno got some more insurance in the 8th on an RBI single from Aplin and a Kemp sac fly. McCurry gave up 2 runs in the 9th but Hoyt came on to get the last out and picked up his 26th save.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (61-39) lost 7-6 (BOX SCORE)
Crazy game in Corpus. The game took a turn in the 2nd inning when Vasquez was hit by a pitch. He charged the mound causing the benches to clear and a brawl to ensue. Vasquez, Laureano and the pitcher were all tossed. Corpus would end up getting a run that inning with Fontana scoring on a passed ball. In the 4th inning Corpus scored 3 runs on a Hyde 2 run triple and a Pena RBI single. They added another run on a Gregor RBI single in the 5th. Unfortunately the Frisco put up 6 runs over the 6th and 7th innings. Davis hit a solo HR to bring them within a run but they weren’t able to get anything else going.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (48-51) won 6-5 (BOX SCORE)
Corpus walked off in the 14th two nights ago and now Quad Cities walks off in the 14th. Perez made his first start for Quad Cities and gave up 3 runs over 4 innings of work. Quad Cities tied the game with 3 runs in the 6th thanks to a 2 run single from Porter and a sac fly from Cesar. They took the lead in the 7th on a Tucker RBI single. Bowling Green battled back getting 1 run in the 9th to tie it. The game stayed scoreless until the 14th when BG put up a run in the top of the inning. Quad Cities didn’t quit though getting an RBI single from McCall and a walk-off RBI single from Porter to win it.

The ValleyCats win this one in a walk-off. Valdez got the start and tossed five innings allowing just 1 run. Tri-City got on the board in the 4th on a Jones solo HR. They fell behind 4-1 but would start to rally in the 7th scoring 1 run. They scored 2 more to tie it in the 8th. In that inning Wolfe came through with a 2 out, 2 run single. The bullpen gave up 1 run in the top of the 9th but the ValleyCats wouldn’t go away. Benedetti came to the plate with the bases loaded and came through with a walk-off 2 run single.
