Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 21st
Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.
AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (51-45) lost 3-0 (BOX SCORE)
Tough game for the Fresno offense last night. The offense together only managed two hits and both were from Kemp. Shirley got the start and struggled a bit early with his command. The big blow came in the 3rd inning on a Gallo 3 run HR. McCurry, Gustave, and Jankowski all tossed scoreless innings in relief but the offense was unable to get anything going.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (59-38) lost 7-6 (BOX SCORE)
Tough loss in extra innings for Corpus. They scored early with an RBI single from Hyde in the 2nd inning. In the 3rd inning Davis added a 2 run HR, his 15th HR of the season. Corpus added to the lead in the 4th on a Fontana RBI single to make it 4-1. Grills was rolling through six but got roughed up for 4 runs in the 7th. Corpus retook the lead on a Pena 2 run HR. Unfortunately the bullpen gave up 1 in the 9th and 1 in the 10th and Corpus was unable to comeback.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (53-44) won 9-8 (BOX SCORE)
This was a rollercoaster of a baseball game. Lancaster got on the board in the 2nd inning with a solo HR from Muniz, his 9th of the season. They added a run in the 4th on a Ferguson bases loaded walk to take a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately High Desert scored 6 in the 6th inning to take the lead but they battled back. In the 8th inning the Jethawks got back to back HR from Ferguson and Mizell. With 2 outs in the 9th Mizell hit a 2 run double to LF to tie the game. Lancaster fell behind by 1 in the 11th but in the bottom of the 11th Ferguson sent the fans home happy with a walk-off 2 run HR.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (46-50) won 12-4 (BOX SCORE)
Big time win for Quad Cities. Bower got the start for the River Bandits and struck out 11 over his 6 innings of work. Quad Cities got on the board with a 3 run HR from Hermelyn in the 2nd inning. Porter added a solo HR in the 5th inning, his 5th of the season. They would add 3 more runs in the 6th with two scoring on a groundout and another on a Tucker sac fly. They would cap off their scoring with a big 8th inning scoring 4 runs thanks to a Roa RBI triple, Michelena 2 run double, and Goedert RBI single. Whitt and Nelson combined to shutout Dayton over the final 3 innings.

Tri-City fell behind early in this one with Staten Island scoring 3 runs in the first inning. The ValleyCats would respond with 3 runs of their own in the 2nd inning thanks ton an RBI groundout, a Rogers solo HR, and DeGoti scoring on a wild pitch. Tri-City would take the lead in the 3rd on an RBI double from Dawson. Unfortunately Staten Island put up 3 more runs and took a 6-4 lead to the 9th. Birk added a sac fly in the 9th but that was all they would get as they fell 6-5.
