Houston Astros Minor League Recap: July 19th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (50-44) won 1-0 (BOX SCORE)

Dominating pitching performance in this one. Musgrove got the start and was almost untouchable. He finished tossing 7 scoreless innings with 0 BB/9 K. Fresno only scored 1 run last night which came on a White RBI single bringing in Bregman in the 3rd inning. Fields tossed a scoreless 8th to keep it 1-0. Hoyt tossed a scoreless 9th to record his 24th save. He now has a 1.77 ERA with 79 K in 45.2 innings.

  • Joe Musgrove, RHP: 7.0 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K (WIN)
  • Josh Fields, RHP: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
  • James Hoyt, RHP: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K (SAVE)

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (59-36) lost 14-2 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with Stubbs singling and coming around to score on a wild pitch. Unfortunately the lead didn’t last long. Sneed has been great this season but struggled last night giving up 8 runs in his only inning of work. Sanudo gave up 2 runs and Peterson gave up 3 runs, though all unearned. Corpus was only able to add one more run in the 7th on an RBI single from Stubbs.

  • Cy Sneed, RHP: 1.0 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 3 BB, 0 K

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (52-44) won 5-4 (BOX SCORE)

Nice close win for Lancaster. Boyd lead off the game with a solo HR, his 8th HR of the season. Thornton got the start and gave up 3 runs in the first but tossed five scoreless innings after that to keep the game close. In the 3rd inning Muniz added an RBI single to bring the Jethawks within a run. Lancaster added 3 runs in the 6th with 1 run scoring on an error and a 2 run double from Boyd. Deemes and Comer combined to throw 2 shutout innings to end the game.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (44-50) OFF

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (17-15) lost 6-4 (BOX SCORE

Tri-City lost this one in extra innings. The ValleyCats scored first on a Johnson solo HR in the 2nd inning. They were down 3-1 entering the 4th inning but Birk came through with a 2 out, 2 run single to tie it at 3. Mejia added an RBI single in the 5th to take a 4-3 lead. Unfortunately the bullpen wasn’t able to hold it as Batavia tied it in the 8th and won it with 2 runs in the 10th.

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (14-12) lost 4-3 (BOX SCORE)
