Houston Astros Minor League Recap: June 3rd

All four teams in action last night. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (24-29) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Solid win for Fresno. They jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first with an AJ Reed 2 run HR, his 7th HR of the season. Fresno would add another run with a Moran RBI single in the 3rd inning. In the 6th the Grizzlies added 3 more runs with RBIs from Aplin and Duffy. Rodgers got the start and was great allowing just 1 hit and 0 runs over 6 innings of work with 8 strikeouts. Chapman pitched the final inning and gave up 2 runs but Fresno was able to hold on for the win.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (33-20) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus keeps on winning. Corpus got the scoring started with 2 runs in the second inning thanks to a 2 run HR from Pena, his 1st HR of the season. Martes got the start for Corpus and was very good. He went 6.1 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned. The game went into the 8th inning tied at 2 until Teoscar broke the tie with a solo HR to center field, his 4th of the season. McCurry picked up the save with 2 scoreless innings.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (28-26) won 8-2 (BOX SCORE)

Lancaster continues to play well. They got a run in the first inning when Muniz single in Laureano who tripled. James got the start and went 5.2 innings allowing 2 earned runs while striking out 6. Lancaster went into the 5th inning down 2-1 but exploded for 5 runs in the 5th. In the 5th they had an RBI single from Boyd, RBI walk from Muniz, RBI groundout from Mizell, and a 2 run double from Ferguson. Del Rosario pitched two scoreless innings in relief, his 4th outing in a row without allowing a run. Laureano would add a 2 run single in the 9th to extend the lead. Thome closed the game with 1.1 scoreless innings. He has yet to allow a run since his promotion to Lancaster.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (23-31) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Good pitching for Quad Cities but they couldn’t get the bats going. Burlington scored both their runs in the top of the first off of Murphy. Murphy would settle down though and finished with 7 innings allowing just the 2 runs. Quad Cities got on the board in the 6th with a triple from Tucker and an RBI single from McCall. Ferrell threw 2 shutout innings but the offense wasn’t able to get anything else going.

FRE: Brad Peacock (5.64 ERA)

CC: Evan Grills (0.90 ERA)

LAN: Matt Bower (7.62 ERA)

QC: Yoanys Quiala (5.09 ERA)
