Houston Astros Minor League Recap: June 28th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (38-39) won 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno got this game started off right when they scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning. In that inning they got an RBI triple from Moran, RBI double from Tucker, and RBI single from Kemmer. Valdez got the start giving up 3 runs, 2 earned, over 6 innings of work. Kemmer added another RBI on a single scoring Duffy in the 3rd. Heineman added a solo HR in the 8th to make it 5-3. The Fresno bullpen was dominant. McCurry tossed two scoreless innings and now has 7.2 scoreless innings in AAA. Hoyt struck out the side to pick up his 19th save. He has 68 K in 38.1 innings.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (51-25) OFF

The Hooks were off but multiple players played in the Texas League All-Star game.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (37-38) won 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

Bostick got the start for the Jethawks and went 4 innings allowing 2 earned runs. Lancaster got the scoring started with a run in the top of the 1st on an RBI single from Muniz. In the 4th inning Lancaster scored 3 runs on a Ritchie 2 run double and another run scoring on an error. Ballard add a 2 run HR in the 6th inning to expand the lead. Deetz relieved Bostick and had one of his better outings recently. He went 4 innings allowing just 1 run with 0 BB/2 K.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (33-42) lost 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

Quad Cities jumped out to an early lead with 2 runs in the first inning thanks to a sac fly from Tucker and an RBI single from Hermelyn. Unfortunately that would be their last lead of the night as Cedar Rapids scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning. QC rallied for 2 in the 6th with a 2 run double from Porter. Hernandez got the start but gave up the 5 runs in just 1.2 innings. Nelson relieved him and went 3.2 innings giving up just 1 run. Tucker added an RBI single in the 9th but it wasn’t enough. Straw had 3 hits and 2 stolen bases.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (5-6) POSTPONED

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (1-5) lost 8-7 (BOX SCORE)

ROOKIE: GCL Astros (2-3) lost 5-1 (BOX SCORE)
