Houston Astros Minor League Recap: June 26th

Another night of Astros minor league play is in the books. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (37-38) won 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

Fresno is slowly working their way back to .500. They scored early in this one dropping a five spot on Tacoma in the 2nd inning. In that inning they had an RBI single from Kemmer, sac fly from Mayfield, 2 run double from Aplin, and an RBI single from Moran. They would add another run in the 3rd another RBI single from Kemmer. Shirley got the start and pitched well giving up 2 runs in 5 innings. McCurry tossed two more scorelesss innings in relief keeping his AAA ERA at 0.00. White lead off the 5th inning with a solo HR, his 3rd HR in AAA. Fields closed the game with a scoreles 9th.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (51-25) won 9-2 (BOX SCORE)

Big 6th inning lifts Corpus to another win. Corpus fell behind in the first when Emanuel allowed 2 runs, the only runs he would allow all game. He ended up going 6 innings allowing just the 2 runs with 5 strikeouts. Corpus responded with 2 runs in the 2nd on bases loaded walks to Bregman and Fisher. The game would stay tied at 2 until the 6th inning. In the 6th Corpus dropped 7 runs thanks to an RBI triple from Ramsay, RBI single from Teoscar, RBI single from Tanielu, RBI single from McDonald, and a 3 run HR from Gregor. Freeman pithced the final 3 innings of the gave allowing just 1 hit and no runs.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (35-38) lost 17-11 (BOX SCORE)

Rough night for the Jethawks pitching. McCanna made his first start for Lancaster and it did not go well as he gave up 8 runs in the first inning, only getting one out before being pulled. Lancaster battled though scoring 1 in the 1st on a Ritchie RBI single. They got another run in the 4th on a Boyd RBI groundout and two more in the 5th on an RBI double from Ritchie and an RBI single from Marlow. Lake Elsinore dropped 7 more runs in the 8th inning to blow it wide open. Lancaster would add a few more runs on a Sewald RBI single and a Ballard 3 run HR but it wasn’t enough. Muniz, the Jethawks first baseman, pitched a scoreless 9th last night.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (32-41) lost 12-2 (BOX SCORE)

This game started off well with Quad Cities scoring 2 runs in the first on RBIs from Tucker and McCall. Unfortunately in the 2nd inning, Wisconsin dropped 10 runs and Quad Cities was never able to recover. Only highlight on the pitching side was Whitt tossing 3 innings with just 1 run allowed. Duarte and Trompiz both had doubles and Roa had two hits including a triple.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (4-6) won 11-6 (BOX SCORE)

Two big innings helps Tri-City get the win. In the 2nd inning they put up 5 runs thanks to a 2 run double from Cameron, RBI double from Jones, and two other runs scoring on an error and FC. Wrenn would add a solo HR in the 4th to extend the lead to 6-0. Kessay started for the ValleyCats and allowed just 1 run over 4 innings of work. Tri-City would have another 5 run inning in the 7th with Cesar and DeGoti driving in runs. Stutzman made his season debut and tossed a scoreless 9th to close the game.

ROOKIE: Greeneville Astros (1-3) lost 6-5 (BOX SCORE)

ROOKIE: GCL Astros (1-1) lost 7-1 (BOX SCORE)

  • Jose Ramos, RHP: 3.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
