Houston Astros Minor League Recap: June 18th
Another night of Astros minor league play is in the book. See how the prospects performed last night.
AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (31-36) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)
Nice win for Fresno. Rodgers was on the mound and continued his winning ways going 7 innings allowing 3 runs with 8 strikeouts. Fresno got on the board in the 1st with a Reed solo HR, his 9th HR of the season. They went into the 7th down 2-1 and rallied for 3 runs. In the 7th Reed had an RBI double and Duffy added a 2 run double. Chapman came in relief of Rodgers and struck out both batters he faced. Hoyt picked up his 15th save with 3 K in 1.1 innings and now has 61 K in 34 innings this season.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (45-23) won 6-2 (BOX SCORE)
Another win for Corpus. Paulino got the start last night and went 6 innings allowing 2 runs with 6 strikeouts. His ERA is now 1.86. Corpus got the scoring started in the 4th with a Gregor solo HR. In the 5th they would get another run on a Fisher RBI double. The game was tied at 2 going into the 7th inning. Corpus scored 4 runs in the 7th thanks to a bases loaded walk to Fisher and Davis, a run on a wild pitch, and a Tanielu sac fly. Peterson closed the game out with 3 scoreless innings striking out 4.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (34-34) lost 10-7 (BOX SCORE)
Rough night for the Lancaster bullpen. Armenteros got the start and pitched well allowing just 2 runs over 5 innings. Lancaster got on the board with 3 runs in the 3rd thanks to an RBI double from Muniz, RBI single from Sewald, and another run scoring on an error. Armenteros left with the lead but Bakersfield put up 6 on the bullpen in the 6th inning. Lancaster mounted a mini comeback with a 2 run triple from Boyd and sac fly from Stubbs, Bakersfield ended up scoring two more and Lancaster couldn’t overcome it.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (30-38) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)
Nice 1 run win for the River Bandits. Abreu got the start and threw one of his best games of the season. He went 7 innings allowing just 3 hits and 1 earned run. The offense got on the board early with an RBI single from Porter in the bottom of the 1st inning. QC would add another run in the 5th on a Trompiz sac fly. Abreu left the game up 2-1 but Cedar Rapids scored one in the 8th to tie the game. In the bottom of the inning QC was able to manufacture a run with a Goedert sac fly. Schmidt finished the game with a scoreless 9th.

A-: Tri-City ValleyCats (1-1) lost 9-5 (BOX SCORE)
Ben Smith made his first start in the Astros system and while it didn’t go well, 8 R/5 ER in 1 IP, just to see him back on the mound is nice. For the second night in a row Wrenn lead off the first with an extra base hit and would come around to score on a Jones single. They would get two more runs in the 3rd on a 2 run double from Cameron. They would add another couple runs, one coming on a Benedetti RBI single. Wrenn finished the night 3-for-3 with 4 R, 2 BB. Perez tossed four scoreless innings in relief for Tri-City but they couldn’t overcome the early deficit.
