Houston Astros Minor League Recap: June 4th

All four teams in action last night. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (24-30) lost 10-5 (BOX SCORE)

Tough loss for Fresno. The Grizzlies jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with a Tucker RBI single and a Moran 2 run double. Peacock got the start and was pitching decent until the 6th inning. He ended up going 5.1 innings and allowing 5 runs. Gustave and Chapman both allowed multiple runs in relief. Fresno did add a couple more runs with an RBI double from Kemmer and a Duffy sac fly. Unfortunately the deficit was too much to overcome. Cotton threw two scoreless innings in relief with 2 strikeouts.

  • Brad Peacock, RHP: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
  • Chris Cotton, LHP: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (33-21) lost 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus just couldn’t get the bats going last night. Grills got the start and pitched well yet again going 5 innings and allowing 2 runs with 0 BB/6 K. The only run Corpus scored was in the 7th inning when Gregor walked, Tanielu doubled, and Pena came through with a sac fly. Frias pitched the final 3 innings of the game and was very good allowing just 2 hits and striking out four.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (29-26) won 7-4 (BOX SCORE)

Lancaster has now won 4 in a row and 7 of their last 8. The Jethawks jumped out to an early lead with 2 runs in the first thanks to a Marlow 2 run HR. They added another run in the 2nd on a Reynoso RBI double and then two more in 3rd thanks to an RBI single from Ferguson and Laureano scoring on a wild pitch. Weathersby started for Lancaster and was great throwing five shutout innings. Modesto made a bit of a game out of it scoring 4 runs off of Dykxhoorn but Laureano would add some insurance in the 8th with a 2 run single. Deemes picked up the save with a scoreless 9th lowering his ERA to 0.84.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (23-32) lost 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Quad Cities offense has disappeared a bit the last few games. Cuban, Yoanys Quiala, got the start and had his best outing in the Astros sytem. He went 7 innings and allowed just 2 earned runs with 0 BB/2 K. Santos and Schmidt both pitched in relief and gave up 1 run each. Quad Cities didn’t get on the board until the bottom of the 9th when Hermelyn had an RBI double. Unfortunately that would be the only run they would score as they fell 4-1.

Today’s starters according to MiLB.com:

FRE: Cesar Valdez (3.60 ERA)

CC: Brian Holmes (4.01 ERA)

LAN: Matt Bower (7.62 ERA)

QC: TBD
