Joe Musgrove Promoted To AAA (Fresno Grizzlies)
Thursday morning the Houston Astros promoted one of their top pitching prospects, Joseph Musgrove, to AAA Fresno Grizzlies.
Jeff Luhnow just recently commented saying that a promotion to AAA was imminent for the big right hander. Musgrove was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 2011 draft. He was traded to the Astros in the summer of 2012. He had a breakout season in 2014 finishing 7-1 with a 2.81 ERA with 10 BB/67 K in 77 IP.
In 2015, he had a season that many won’t forget. Over three levels (A, A+, AA) Musgrove compiled a line of 12-1, 1.88 ERA, 100.2 IP, 85 H, 8 BB, 99 K, 0.7 BB/9, 8.9 K/9. This season really increased his top prospects status and he ended up on many top 100 prospects lists this off-season. He was also the Astros Minor League Pitcher of the year for 2015.
This season he has been even better. In 6 games for Corpus Christi he was 2-1 with a 0.34 ERA, 26.1 IP, 19 H, 3 BB, 30 K, 1.0 BB/9, 10.3 K/9. His final line at AA is 1.51 ERA, 71.1 IP, 9 BB, 63 K. He showed there was nothing left to prove. For more on Musgrove read this report.
The big right hander (6’5″) is one step closer to completing his dream of becoming a major league baseball player. If he pitches like he has the last few seasons, he will defintely see time in Houston this summer.
