Houston Astros Minor League Recap: May 3rd

All four teams in the Astros system in action but only one came out on top. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (11-13) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Close game in Fresno but the Grizzlies couldn’t get enough offense to win it. Wojciechowski had a solid start going 6.1 innings giving up 3 runs, 2 earned. Fresno scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th with a 2 run single from Fontana. Unfortunately, that is all they would get. On the plus side, Moran had two more hits raising his season average to .317. Singleton had another extra base hit and it hitting .306 over his last 10 games.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (11-13) lost 3-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks’ offense just couldn’t get it going tonight only mustering three hits. One of those hits was a solo HR for McDonald, his 7th on the season and 4th in his last give games. On the pitching side David Paulino got the start. Paulino gave up a 2 run HR in the bottom of the first. He finished with 5 innings, 2 runs, 4 strikeouts on the day. Kyle Smith relieved him giving up 1 run in 3 innings of work.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (9-14) won 4-2 (BOX SCORE)

Lancaster got the only win in the system last night. Deetz got the start and went 5 innings giving up just 1 hit and 2 runs. The only hit he gave up was in the first inning with one out. The Jethawks got 2 runs in the top of the 2nd with Trompiz and Ritchie each driving a run in. Lancaster added a run with a Tanielu RBI single and a Gonzalez solo HR. Armenteros came in for the save and finished with three shutout innings.

A: Quad Cities River Bandits (10-15) lost 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

Tough loss for Quad Cities as they lost this one in 13 innings. The pitching was very good though striking out 19 over 12.1 innings total. QC got their scoring in the top of the 4th with an RBI single from Tucker. They managed 10 hits total but could not get any more runs. Winkelman struck out 8 in 3.2 innings of relief. Deemes pitched a perfect 3.1 innings with 5 strikeouts. Deemes has given up just 10 hits in 17.1 innings this season. Unfortunately, Garza gave up 2 hits and a run in the bottom of the 13th giving Great Lakes the win.
