Houston Astros Minor League Recap: May 16th

All four teams in the Astros system in action with two teams winning and two teams losing last night. See how the prospects performed last night.

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (15-22) lost 4-1 (BOX SCORE)

Rough loss for the Grizzlies last night as all four runs came off of an error. Hasuchild got the start and was solid the first five innings. He left the game with the bases loaded and one out. Chapman came in and got the the first out but the next guy reach on an error allowing 3 runs to score. Matt Duffy scored the only offense of the night with a solo HR in the 7th inning. Other than that, Worth and Singleton managed singles and that was it for the offense.

AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (21-15) won 8-0 (BOX SCORE)

Corpus is rolling now. This is their 7th win in a row and second straight shutout. Holmes got the start and went five scoreless innings striking out six. Corpus got the offense started early with Fisher driving in Bregman with an RBI triple in the first. In the third Fisher doubled and JD Davis had an RBI groundout. Bregman continued his hot hitting with a 2 run double in the 5th inning. The Hooks would add another in the 7th on a Hernandez sac fly. Bregman capped the scoring off with a 2 run HR, his 8th on the season. Bregman, Fisher, and Davis are carrying the Hooks. Here are there last 10 games:

Bregman – .324 BA, 11 R, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 8 BB/3 SO
Fisher – .389 BA, 7 R, 5 HR, 11 RBI, 3 SB
Davis – .341 BA, 7 R, 3 HR, 10 RBI

The bullpen combination of Freeman and Cotton combined for four shutout innings to seal the win for the Hooks. In and unfortunate note, Mott Hyde and Danry Vasquez collided on a play in the 1st inning causing both to leave the game. Hope they have a speedy recovery.

A+: Lancaster Jethawks (15-20) won 19-0 (BOX SCORE)

No that is not a typo. Lancaster scored 19 runs. Even more impressive though, they did so in the first five innings of the game. Armenteros got the start and was fantastic going 6 shutout innings with 0 BB/9 K. Thompson and Peterson combined to strikeout five over the final three innings. The offensive side was insane. Ritchie had four hits and a homer. Muniz two hits and a homer. Tanielu had four hits and is now hitting .371 on the season! He is hitting .455 with 20 hits over his last 10 games. Ferguson had two double and five RBI. Trompiz had four hits and Laureano and Garcia both added three hits.
