Astros Minor League Recap: July 31st

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books. See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (55-50) won 4-3 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the 4th inning on a Thaiss RBI single. Weiss got the start and went 4.1 innings allowing 1 run while striking out 6. The Bees got a run off Santa in the 8th to take the lead but in the bottom of the 9th Sugar Land tied it getting a run on an error. After the Bees got a run in the 10th, Sugar Land rallied in the bottom of the inning tying the game on a Whitcomb RBI triple and then walking it off when Whitcomb scored on a passed ball.

Note: Whitcomb is hitting .279 in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (47-53) won 3-2 (BOX SCORE)

DeVos started for the Hooks and pitched well allowing 2 runs, both in the first inning, over 6 innings while striking out 7. The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Sisneros sac fly. In the 6th, the offense scored 2 more runs on an error. The pen was dominant with Chirinos striking out 3 and Santos closing it out with 6 strikeouts over 2 scoreless innings as the Hooks won 3-2.

Note: Santos has a 1.31 ERA over his last 13 outings.


A+: Asheville Tourists (33-66) lost 8-4 (BOX SCORE)

Taylor started for Asheville and was solid allowing 1 run over 4.2 innings while striking out 3 batters. Marrero pitched in relief but struggled in the 6th inning allowing 7 runs. Asheville got on the board in the 7th inning on a Garcia RBI single. In the 8th, the offense got 2 runs on a Frey 2 run home run. In the 9th, Neyens added an RBI single but that was it as Asheville fell 8-4.

Note: Neyens has a .887 OPS in High-A.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (51-47) won 10-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got the offense going early putting together a monster first inning where they scored 8 runs on a Sierra grand slam, Newman 2 run home run, Wakefield RBI single and Luciano RBI double. Potter started for the Woodpeckers and pitched well striking out 6 over 4 innings allowing one run. The offense got another run in the 6th on a Newman sac fly and one more in the 7th inning on a Luciano groundout. The pen was great tossing 5 scoreless innings as the Woodpeckers won 10-1.

Note: Wakefield hit .329 in July.
