On Monday, the Florida Complex League Astros capped off a truly remarkable season by winning the 2026 Florida Complex League Championship.
The FCL Astros, the organization’s rookie-level affiliate based at the Astros’ spring training complex in West Palm Beach, are made up primarily of young prospects from the draft and the international signing market.
Their season began back in May, and they quickly established themselves as one of the best teams in the league. The Astros finished the regular season with a 42-11 record, the best mark in franchise history. Offensively, they were led by Luis De Leon, who posted a 1.042 OPS in 38 games, August Cuneo (1.024 OPS in 19 games), Luis Rives (.899 OPS), Ronier Quintana (.797 OPS), Juan Rojas, Jase Mitchell and Landon Arroyos, who stole 31 bases.
On the pitching side, Adrian Ardines anchored the staff with a 3.42 ERA and 56 strikeouts over 52.2 innings. Jhoster Baez added a 4.09 ERA across 33 innings, while several other young arms made key contributions throughout the season.
The Astros carried that momentum into the postseason. On Saturday, they blanked the Orioles 7-0 behind six scoreless innings from Ardines to advance to the championship series against the FCL Rays. They followed that with a 7-1 victory on Sunday to take a 1-0 series lead, setting up a chance to clinch the title on Monday.
The championship game provided plenty of drama. Locked in a 1-1 tie entering the 10th inning, the Rays scored two runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Astros refused to quit. In the bottom of the inning, they rallied behind an RBI single from Pabo Martinez, an RBI triple by Juan Rojas and, finally, a walk-off RBI single from Roiner Quintana to complete an improbable comeback and secure the championship.
“They have such a tremendous group at the complex, staff and players included, and I think that’s why you see such tremendous success over the last two years years and all throughout the org,” said form hitting coach Brandon Van Horn who recently left for a similar position at Missouri. “And you see the success that the group’s having in the low minors this year.”
The title capped off a phenomenal season under manager Vincent Blue. While the Florida Complex League is focused on player development, learning how to win is an important part of that process. The FCL Astros not only developed individual talent in 2026—they also established a winning culture that should benefit many of these young prospects as they continue climbing the minor league ladder.
