Astros Officially Sign First-Rounders Logan Hughes and Jack Radel

Logan Hughes, MLB Draft Combine

On Wednesday afternoon, the Astros announced they have officially signed first-round picks Logan Hughes and Jack Radel.

The 2026 MLB Draft, which concluded on Sunday, July 19, was a significant one for Houston. The Astros held multiple first-round selections for the first time since 2015, when they drafted Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker.

Hughes, selected No. 17 overall, starred at Texas Tech and put together an outstanding junior season. The outfielder slashed .375 with 16 doubles, 18 home runs and 70 RBIs while drawing 50 walks compared to just 33 strikeouts. Hughes’ calling card is his bat, combining an advanced hit tool with plus power, and he immediately becomes one of the top position player prospects in the Astros’ farm system. Hughes signed for $3.41 million with a slot value of $4.87 million

Radel, selected No. 28 overall, enjoyed a breakout junior season at Notre Dame. In 2026, the right-hander posted a 3.29 ERA with 116 strikeouts over 82.2 innings for the Fighting Irish. He features a fastball that reaches 98 mph, plus cutter and slider, and also mixes in a curveball and changeup. At 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, Radel has an imposing frame, but he pairs it with impressive athleticism and above-average control, giving him the traits to develop into a durable starting pitcher. Radel signed for $3.0 million with a slot value of $3.36 million.

The Astros are expected to use the bonus pool savings from Hughes and Radel to land prep infielders Keon Johnson and Beau Peterson, signing both away from their college commitments to Vanderbilt and the University of Texas, respectively.
