Astros Minor League Recap: July 8th

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (42-46) won 5-2 (BOX SCORE)

Hendrickson started for Sugar Land and pitched well tossing 5 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the third on a groundout. In the 5th, they scored 2 more runs on a Ferreras RBI double and Guillemette RBI single. After the Isotopes scored 2 runs in the 7th, the Sugar Land offense got some insurance scoring 2 of their own in the 8th inning on Diaz and Whitcomb RBI singles. The pen closed it down as Sugar Land won 5-2.

Note: Ferreras is hitting .365 in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (37-45) lost 8-3 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning on a Bush RBI double. Mayer got the start and went 4 innings allowing 1 run while striking out 7 batters. In the 5th, Bush drove in another run on an RBI single as the Hooks took the lead. The Hooks got another run in the 6th inning on a Holy RBI single. The pen tossed a couple scoreless innings but in the 8th, Dashwood really struggled allowing 7 runs as the RoughRiders took the lead. The offense was unable to mount a comeback as the Hooks fell 8-3.

Note: Bush has 8 RBI in 7 games in July.

A+: Asheville Tourists (28-54) lost 15-9 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first inning on an Ochoa sac fly. Santos got the start but struggled allowing 7 runs over 4.1 innings. Asheville got a run back in the 4th on a Nunez groundout. After the Dash took an 8-2 lead, Asheville rallied for 4 runs in the 8th on a Hernandez groundout, Daudet RBI single and Garcia 2 run double. Asheville rallied in the 9th scoring 2 runs on a wild pitch and sac fly to tie it. The game went to the 11th and the Dash scored 7 runs to take a commanding lead. The offense got one back but that was it as Asheville fell 15-9.

Note: Ochoa is hitting .305 in Asheville.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (41-41) lost 6-4 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the first inning on a Luciano run scoring double. Beck started for the Woodpeckers and went 4.2 innings allowing 3 runs. The offense tied it up in the 4th inning on a Wakefield RBI double. The Warbirds took the lead in the 5th scoring 2 runs. After the Warbirds got another run in the 7th, the Woodpeckers responded with 2 runs in the 8th on a Neyens solo home run and Gomez groundout. The pen allowed one more run and the offense was unable to score again as the Woodpeckers fell 6-4.

Note: Luciano has a .861 OPS this season.
