Astros Minor League Recap: July 28th

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books. See the results below.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (52-50) won 9-2 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board in the third inning putting up 4 runs on a Whitcomb grand slam. In the 4th, the offense would add 5 more runs on a Biggio 2 run single, Ferreras sac fly and Loperfido 2 run home run. Hendrickson got the start and pitched well allowing 2 runs over 5.2 innings with 7 strikeouts. The bullpen was solid tossing 3.1 scoreless innings as they closed out the 9-2 win.

Note: Loperfido is hitting .284 in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (45-52) lost 5-3 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning on a Janek RBI single. Dombroski got the start and went 4.2 innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 7 batters. In the top of the 7th inning, the Hooks took the lead scoring 2 runs on an Encarnacion 2 run triple. In the bottom of the 7th, the pen allowed 3 runs to score as Frisco took the lead. The offense was unable to respond and the Hooks fell 5-3.

Note: Encarnacion has 44 stolen bases this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (33-62) POSTPONED

A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (48-47) won 10-4 (BOX SCORE)

Fraide got the start and went 5 innings allowing 4 runs while striking out 4. The offense got on the board in the 2nd inning on a Fielder 2 run home run. In the 4th, Flores connected on a 2 run home run. The offense picked up another run in the 5th on a Luciano RBI single and then in the 6th, Flores connected on another 2 run home run, his 15th home run in the season. The Woodpeckers got a run in the 7th on a Cauro solo home run and then 2 more runs in the 8th on a Newman RBI single and Wakefield RBI double. Mathiesen and Cassedy tossed 2 scoreless innings each as they closed out the 10-4 win.

Note: Flores tied the franchise record with 15 home runs in a season.
