Astros Minor League Recap: July 10th

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books. See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (43-47) won 10-0 (BOX SCORE)

Sugar Land got on the board early scoring 3 runs in the first inning on a Ferreras RBI double, Spence walk and a run on a wild pitch. In the 2nd, Loperfido connected on a grand slam. The offense continued to add on scoring 3 runs in the 3rd inning on a Sacco RBI single, Ferreras walk and a run on a wild pitch. Gordon started for Sugar Land and was great tossing 6 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts. The pen was great tossing 3 scoreless innings as they closed out the 10-0 win.

Note: Ferreras is hitting.365 in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (38-46) won 6-1 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the 3rd inning on an Encarnacion groundout. They got another run in the 5th on a Whitaker solo home run. Hicks started for the Hooks and pitched really well tossing 5 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts, allowing just 1 hit. Sullivan added a sac fly in the 6th inning. The Hooks added 3 more runs in the 8th on Cisneros 2 run double and Holy sac fly. The pen was solid allowing just 1 run as the Hooks won 6-1.

Note: Bush has a .845 OPS this season.


A+: Asheville Tourists (29-55) lost 7-3 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the first inning on a Moss groundout. Smith started for Asheville and pitched really well tossing 6 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. Asheville got 2 more runs in the 5th on a Garcia RBI single and a run on a double play. Asheville took a 3-0 lead into the 9th inning but the pen struggled allowing 7 runs as the Dash took the lead. The offense went down in order in the 9th as Asheville fell 7-3.

Note: Smith has a 2.01 ERA over his last four starts.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (42-42) lost 11-1o (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring 3 runs on an error, a groundout and a Ramirez RBI double. The Woodpeckers scored 3 more runs in the 3rd on a Cauro 3 run double. The offense added 2 more runs in the 4th on an error and wild pitch. Perez started for the Woodpeckers and went 4 innings allowing 2 runs. Gonzalez struggled in relief allowing 8 runs as the Warbirds took the lead. The Woodpeckers rallied in the 9th tying the game on a Ramirez 2 run single. In the bottom of the 9th, the Warbirds walked it off on a home run as the Woodpeckers fell 11-10.

Note: Cauro is hitting .285 this season.
