I wanted to put a list together of some prospects I like and some guys I think the Astros could target on day two of the 2026 draft. While information is limited on some, it is still to put together a list to reference. There are also plenty of high school prospects the Astros could still look at.
HITTERS:
Kollin Ritchie, OF, Oklahoma State
Ritchie is possible the highest ranked college bat on the board. The 21-year-old had a big season for Oklahoma State hitting .326 with 31 home runs over 60 games. Ritchie has some big time power and is a solid runner and defender in the outfield, but his bat does come with some swing and miss. Still a worthwhile gamble for a team.
Deiten Lachance, C, Oklahoma
Lachance had a monster year for the Sooners helping them to the College World Series title. In 65 games, he hit .327 with 18 home runs and a 1.005 OPS. Like Ritchie, Lachance has some big time power and has a nice arm, but he is a below average runner and scouts don’t think he will stick at catcher and likely ends up at first base.
Jaxon Willits, SS, Oklahoma
Another Sooner on this list, Willits had a big year and was huge in the College World Series. The switch hitter hit .313 with 20 doubles, 7 home runs and 55 runs batted in. Willits provides solid defense in the infield and could be a fast mover through the system, offering a really high floor.
Dalton Wentz, SS, Wake Forest
Wentz is one of the younger college players in the draft at just 20 years old. This season for Wake Forest, Wentz hit .306 with 19 doubles and 18 home runs. Another big power, big arm prospect, Wentz has some strong upside. He had a good showing in the Cape Cod as a 19-year-old hitting .283 over 37 games.
Lucas Moore, OF, Louisville
I have a soft spot in my heart for prospects like Moore. The outfielder provides plus defense in center field and has elite speed. He doesn’t have much pop in the bat, but he has good contact skills and makes good swing decisions. In his college career, he hit .316 and stole 107 bases over 171 games.
Bear Harrison, C, Texas A&M
A&M has already seen a few guys selected and Harrison will follow suit. The 21-year-old catcher put together a nice season for the Aggies hitting .297 with 12 home runs and more walks than strikeouts. Behind the plate he is a solid defender with a strong arm and good pop times.
Javar Williams, OF, Wake Forest
Williams is older than the typical junior at 22, but he had a huge season for Wake Forest. Through 60 games he hit .343 with 17 doubles, 10 home runs and 32 stolen bases. He has some big time speed, rated at 80 by BA on the 20-80 scale, and covers a lot of ground in the field and on the bases.
AJ Evasco, OF, Kansas State
Evasco is a draft eligible sophomore who is 20 years old. This season for the Wildcats, he hit .348 with 8 home runs and just 30 strikeouts over 52 games. He has massive raw power from the left side, but is an ultra aggressive hitter who doesn’t walk much. He will most likely be in a corner outfield spot or first base.
Owen Henne, SS, Seton Hall
Henne is a 6-3 shortstop prospect who has put together a nice career at Seton Hall including a junior season where he hit .399 with more walks than strikeouts. He’s performing well in the MLB Draft League too hitting .302 with 3 doubles, 3 triples and a home run over 16 games.
Ethan Mendoza, 2B, Texas
Mendoza is an intriguing second base prospect out of Texas. The 21-year-old hit just .278 as a junior but had 10 doubles and 11 stolen bases while having more walks than strikeouts. He hit .333 as a sophomore at Texas. He is a decent runner and makes a lot of contact but is also quite aggressive with the bat.
PITCHERS:
Charlie West, LHP, Connecticut
West had a big year for Connecticut in 2026 posting a 4.23 ERA while racking up 111 strikeouts over 87.1 innings. He went out to the Cape Cod League and has dominated with a 2.16 ERA and 26 K over 16.2 innings through four starts. He isn’t a big pitcher listed at just 6-0, but he’s also just 20 years old.
Nathan Aceves, RHP, UC Santa Barbara
Aceves is another pitcher who possesses one of the best changeups in the draft, like Wes Mendes. He has a fastball that runs 93-95 mph but can touch 97. This season he had a 4.18 ERA while striking out 69 over 64.2 innings. He struggles with his command at times but has the stuff to get outs.
Thomas Burns, RHP, Texas
The Astros don’t draft relievers often, but Burns has some intriguing stuff. He has one of the best fastballs in the draft with it peaking at 100 mph. He struggled a bit this year but managed to strikeout 43 batters over 22.1 innings. His velocity is elite and that is something that’s hard to teach.
Weston Moss, RHP, Texas A&M
Moss pitched in relief his first two years at College Station before transitioning to a starting role in 2026. He posted a 5.46 ERA but did strike out 69 strikeouts over 64.1 innings. His fastball sits 92-93 but can touch higher and he has great extension. He has a strong changeup and a slider that needs work, but has the build and raw ability to be a solid start at the pro level.
Alex Petrovic, RHP, Auburn
Petrovic is a huge kid listed at 6-5 and 235 lbs. He had a breakout season for the Tigers in 2026 when he posted a 3.21 ERA with 92 strikeouts over 92 innings in the SEC. He has a mid 90s fastball that he throws for strikes and three solid secondary options making him an intriguing starter option.
SENIOR SIGNS:
Every year, teams try and target some seniors to add some quick talent to the system and get some prospects in at under-slot prices. Here are some seniors who performed well and I would like to see in the system.
Nu’u Contrades, INF, Arizona State
Contrades spent four years at Arizona State and is coming off his best season where he hit .366 with 21 home runs in 53 games. He has a solid hit tool and is a good runner too. He most likely ends up at second base but the overall tools are solid across the board with his power being on the lower end.
Zack Stewart, OF, Arkansas
Stewart is a little polarizing. The 6-6 left handed hitting outfielder connected on 15 home runs this season for Arkansas while posting some insane exit velocities. On the downside, he only hit .265 and strikeouts are a little concern. Despite that, given the potential plus power, he might be worth a big under slot deal in the rounds 5-10.
Paul Schoenfeld, OF, West Virginia
Schoenfeld is 23 years old, but put together a strong season for West Virginia hitting .327 with 19 doubles, 26 stolen bases and 40 walks to 41 strikeouts through 64 games. He also had some strong performances in the Northwoods League hitting .278 over 94 games.
Tyler Fay, RHP, Alabama
Fay has his best season in college as a senior posting a 4.54 ERA while striking out 127 batters over 109 innings. He has a strong fastball and above average slider, while also above average command. He will need to work on the rest of his repertoire to succeed at the next level but he has some good traits.
Dylan Carey, SS, Nebraska
Carey consistently improved every year at Nebraska culminating with a big senior season where he hit .353 with 15 home runs and 65 runs batted in. He also performed well in the Cape Cod and should have the chance to stick up the middle in professional baseball.
