The Houston Astros are reported to be signing pitched Jona Widmann, according to a report from Francys Romero. Widmann is an 18-year-old pitcher from Germany.
Widmann, who is a left-handed pitcher, has the ability to throw four pitches for strikes, with his fastball sitting 89-92 MPH right now. Romero notes that he has starter upside. Widmann was committed to the University of Utah.

This signing is for $115,000 and will count towards the current international signing period, per Romero.
The Astros don’t have many left-handed pitchers so it will be nice to add a young one to the mix. He will report to the Florida Complex League.
