Astros Minor League Recap: June 6th

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books. See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (27-35) lost 11-2 (BOX SCORE)

Weiss started for Sugar Land and struggled allowing 7 runs over 2.2 innings. The pen allowed another four runs as Sugar Land found themselves in a big hole. The offense got on the board in the 7th on a Winkler RBI groundout and got one more in the 8th on a Perez RBI single but that was it as Sugar Land fell 11-2.

Note: Ferreras is hitting .500 in Triple-A.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (25-31) won 9-8 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning on a Spence 2 run home run and Austin solo home run. Gillis got the start and went 3.1 innings allowing 4 runs. The offense got one back in the bottom of the third inning on an Austin solo home run. Biggers added an RBI triple in the 4th inning. The offense continued to add on getting a Schiavone solo home run and Guillemette RBI double in the 5th. The bullpen allowed four runs as the Travelers took the lead. In the 8th, the Hooks rallied getting a Schiavone RBI single to tie it and an Encarnacion RBI triple to take the lead. McLoughlin closed it out as the Hooks won 9-8.

Note: Schiavone has a .877 OPS in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (15-40) lost 15-4 (BOX SCORE)

DeVos started for Asheville and went 3.2 innings allowing 6 runs, 1 earned. Asheville got on the board in the 4th inning on a Moss RBI single. The offense got 2 runs in the 6th on a Daudet 2 run double and another run in the 7th on a Powell solo home run. The pen struggled allowing another 9 runs but the offense was quiet the rest of the way as Asheville fell 15-4.

Note: Powell is hitting .316 this season.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (25-31) lost 6-3 (BOX SCORE)

The Woodpeckers got on the board in the third inning when Diaz connected on a solo home run. Carrera got the start and pitched well allowing 1 run over 5 innings while striking out 4. The offense scored 2 runs in the 5th on a Cauro 2 run single. Varela struggled in relief though allowing 5 runs, 2 earned, as the Fireflies took the lead. The offense was quiet the rest of the way as the Woodpeckers fell 6-3.

Note: Cassedy has a 1.13 ERA this season.
