Astros Minor League Recap: June 28th

Another day of minor league baseball is in the books. See the results below. Check out the previous day’s recap here.

AAA: Sugar Land Space Cowboys (37-43) won 2-1 (BOX SCORE)

Gordon started for Sugar Land and was great tossing 6 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. The offense got on the board in the 6th inning on a Biggio RBI triple and Brooks RBI double. Weiss allowed 1 run over 3 innings as he closed out the 2-1 win.

Note: Biggio has a .849 OPS this season.


AA: Corpus Christi Hooks (34-40) won 5-0 (BOX SCORE)

The Hooks got on the board in the first inning on an Austin sac fly. They picked up 4 more runs in the 2nd inning on a Guillemette 2 run single, Schiavone sac fly and Brutcher RBI single. Gillis got the start and was dominant tossing 7 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts. The pen tossed 2 scoreless innings as they closed out the 5-0 win.

Note: Brutcher is hitting .360 in Double-A.


A+: Asheville Tourists (22-52) won 8-5 (BOX SCORE)

Asheville got on the board in the 2nd inning scoring 3 runs on a Moss groundout, Daudet hit by pitch and Walker groundout. Howard got the start but struggled allowing 4 runs over 2.2 innings. Asheville got a run in the 4th on a Moss RBI triple and then tied the game in the 5th on an Ochoa solo home run. The game stayed tied until the 9th thanks to 4 scoreless innings from Steinbaugh and in the 9th, the offense rallied for 3 runs getting a run on an error, a Call sac fly and a Daudet RBI single. Cruz closed it out with 2 scoreless innings as Asheville won 8-5.

Note: Moss is hitting .364 in High-A.


A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (37-37) lost 11-4 (BOX SCORE)

Smith got the start for the Woodpeckers but struggled allowing 7 runs over 5 innings. The offense got on the board in the 5th inning on a Cauro solo home run. In the 6th, Neyens connected on a 3 run home run, his 12th home run of the season. Saunier struggled in relief allowing 4 runs and the offense was unable to get anything else going as the Woodpeckers fell 11-4.

Note: Neyens has a .900 OPS this season.
